Samir Kadhim Hassan
Samir Kadhim Hassan is an Iraqi football defender who played for Iraq in the 1996 Asian Cup. He also played for Al Wakra Samir was a dominating and aggressive man-marker and a regular for the Iraqi national team during the 1990s. He was a member of Iraq's Asian Youth Championship winning team in 1988 in Doha, Qatar which included goalkeeper Emad Hashim, captain Radhi Shenaishil and attacking midfielder Laith Hussein. A year later, Samir participated in the World Youth Cup, helping Iraq top a group featuring Argentina, Norway and Spain, but in the 2nd round the Iraqi team lost 2–1 to USA. Samir was part of the 1998 World Cup campaign that ended when Iraq lost home and away to Kazakhstan. Samir retired from the national team in 1999, 10 years after making his debut. Emad Hashim
Emad Hashim (born 10 February 1969) is an Iraqi football goalkeeper who played for Iraq in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup and 2000 AFC Asian Cup. He also played club football with Al Shorta for 14 years. After turning in outstanding goalkeeping performances for the Iraqi youth team, Ammo Baba brought Emad Hashim into the international setup when he was just a teenager. In the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia, Iraq topped a group beating Spain, Argentina and Norway to advance to the 2nd round, where they lost 2-1 to USA. Emad was in goal during the qualifying games for 1994 World Cup and also the 1996 Asian Cup campaign in the U.A.E, where he saved a penalty against the hosts in the quarterfinal before the Emirates scored a golden goal a few minutes into extra-time. Amanat Baghdad Sport Club ( ar, نادي أمانة بغداد الرياضي, lit=Mayoralty of Baghdad) is a football team based in Karkh District, Baghdad, Iraq, that competes in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid ( ar, ليث حسين شهيب التولد; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who was the captain of the Iraqi national team. He was vital to speaking out against Uday Hussein, the chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, who was known for his brutality against the football team. International career Hussein made his international debut at the age of 17 in 1986. He played in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and helped Iraq win the Asian Youth Championship in Doha. In the World Youth Cup in Saudi Arabia a year later, Hussein was on the verge of joining Spanish giants Barcelona, after scoring one of the goals in a 2–0 win over Spain, helping Iraq to top their group, but was denied this move by then-president Saddam Hussein. Radhi Shenaishil Swadi ( ar, راضي شنيشل سوادي; born 11 August 1969) is a former Iraqi footballer and former coach of the Iraq national football team, and currently manages Iraq U23. Playing career Radhi Shenaishil was born and brought up in Al-Thawra City in Baghdad. He captained an Iraqi Under 20s team and helped them to top their group which included Spain, Norway and Argentina, who they beat 1–0 with Radhi scoring the winner from a penalty against a side featuring Diego Simeone and Roberto Bonano in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia in 1989. The libero was voted into the Asian Cup select team XI at the 1996 Asian Cup with teammate Laith Hussein after helping Iraq to the quarter-finals.
