Same Old Story (song)
"Same Old Story" is the first single from Ultravox's album ''U-Vox''. The single was released 26 September 1986. Background Now as a trio, without original drummer Warren Cann, the single took Ultravox in a new musical direction. "Same Old Story" featured jazzy brass by Beggar and Co, and female vocals in the chorus by Carol Kenyon. It was clear that the 1986 version of Ultravox was now a very different entity. Mark Brzezicki was hired in and played drums on the album. In the music video of "Same Old Story" Pat Ahern played drums, and he also toured with the band on the U-Vox European Tour. The B-side was the instrumental track "3", which featured rhythms, synthesizers and Billy Currie, Billy Curries recognizable piano. On the maxi single there was an instrumental version of the U-Vox album track "All in One Day", which featured an orchestra conducted and arranged by George Martin. Ultravox
Ultravox (earlier styled as Ultravox!) were a British new wave band, formed in London in April 1974 as Tiger Lily. Between 1980 and 1986, they scored seven Top Ten albums and seventeen Top 40 singles in the UK, the most successful of which was their 1981 hit "Vienna". From 1974 until 1979, singer John Foxx was frontman and the main driving force behind Ultravox. Foxx left the band in March 1979 to embark on a solo career and, following his departure, Midge Ure officially took over as lead singer, guitarist and frontman on 1st November 1979 (despite writing and rehearsing with the band from April of that year) after he and keyboardist Billy Currie worked in the studio project Visage. Ure revitalised the band and steered it to commercial chart success lasting until 1987, at which time the group disbanded. A new line-up, led by Currie, was formed in 1992, but achieved limited success, with two albums failing to chart and one solitary single reaching 90 in the UK Singles Chart. ... Mark Brzezicki
Mark Michael Brzezicki ( , ; born 21 June 1957) is an English musician, best known as the drummer for the Scottish rock band Big Country. He has also played with the Cult, Ultravox, From the Jam, Procol Harum, Rick Astley, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Roger Daltrey, Fish, Steve Harley, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, the Pretenders, Thunderclap Newman, Tiffany, Midge Ure, Pete Townshend and many others. Brzezicki was also the sole drummer on '' Shine'', the second (and final, to date) English-language studio album by Swedish singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA. He uses both the traditional and matched grips. He is the son of an English mother and a Polish veteran of the Second World War. Brzezicki left Big Country in July 1989, but rejoined in 1993. George Martin
Sir George Henry Martin (3 January 1926 – 8 March 2016) was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician. He was commonly referred to as the "Fifth Beatle" because of his extensive involvement in each of the Beatles' original albums. All In One Day
"All in One Day" is the final single from Ultravox's 1986 album, ''U-Vox'', released on 8 June 1987. It was the last Ultravox release during their most popular 1980's incarnation with Midge Ure (until 2012). The song was written as a tribute to the Live Aid event and the orchestra was arranged and conducted by George Martin. It is one of Ultravox's lowest-charting singles, stalling at No. 88 in the UK charts. Ure said about the track in 1986: ''"We asked George Martin to arrange an orchestra for it. Maxi Single
A maxi single or maxi-single (sometimes abbreviated to MCD or CDM) is a music single release with more than the usual two tracks of an A-side song and a B-side song. The first maxi singles Mungo Jerry's first single, "In the Summertime" was the first maxi single in the world. The term came into wide use in the 1970s, where it usually referred to 7-inch vinyl singles featuring one track on the A-side and two on the B-side. The 1975 reissue of David Bowie's "Space Oddity", where the featured song is coupled with "Changes" and "Velvet Goldmine", is a typical example.
