Samaresh Majumdar
Samares Mazumdar ( bn, সমরেশ মজুমদার, born 10 March 1944) is an Indian Bengali writer from West Bengal, India. He is best known for his Animesh series of novels, the second of which (''Kalbela'') won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984. He is also known for creating the detective character Arjun, who is the central character of the 2013 film ''Arjun – Kalimpong E Sitaharan''. The Bengali film ''Buno Haansh'', which released on 15 August 2014, is also based on his novel of the same name, which was published in Pujabarshiki Anondolok. Early life and education Mazumdar spent his childhood years in the tea gardens of Dooars, Gairkata in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal, India. He was a student of the Jalpaiguri Zilla School, Jalpaiguri. He completed his bachelor's degree in Bengali literature from Scottish Church College in Kolkata. ''Desh'' ( bn, দেশ) is an esteemed Bengali language literary magazine published by the ABP Group from India on the 2nd and the 17th of every month. This magazine, which is in publication since 1933, has been edited by editors like Sagarmoy Ghosh in the past. The present editor is Suman Sengupta. After the death of Sagarmoy Ghosh, ''Desh'' started publishing non-fiction articles and essays on topics of current, historical and cultural interest. The Ananda Puraskar () is an award for Bengali literature awarded annually by the ABP Group to writers using Bengali, usually from West Bengal, India. History The award can be traced to a comment by Annada Shankar Ray ruing the absence of literary awards in Bengal. It was started on 20 April 1958 and has been given in the same month since. Bankim Puraskar ( bn, বঙ্কিম পুরস্কার, Bankim Memorial Award) is the highest award given by the Government of West Bengal for contribution to Bengali fiction.
