Samara Sheppard
Samara Sheppard (born 1990) is a mountain bike racing and road bicycle racing cyclist from New Zealand. She competed for New Zealand at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, finishing ninth out of twelve competitors in the women's cross-country competition. Life Sheppard was born in Clyde in the South Island of New Zealand. She suffered a series of injuries as a runner which led her to move into cycling as an alternative sport. She relocated to Australia in 2016 and won a New Zealand title in 2017 and Oceania titles in 2017 and 2018. She also won an Australian title, the elite women's section of the Australian Mountain Bike National Series, in 2018. Mountain bike racing (shortened MTB or ATB racing) is the competitive cycle sport discipline of mountain biking held on off-road terrain. Clyde, formerly Dunstan, is a small town in Central Otago, New Zealand with a population of in It is located on the Clutha River, between Cromwell and Alexandra. The Gravel and Tar Classic is a one-day cycling race, held annually in the Manawatu region of New Zealand, since 2016, finishing in Palmerston North. It is rated 1.2 and has been part of UCI Oceania Tour since 2018. The race is primarily on sealed roads, however the highlight of the race is the multiple gravel sectors (usually 5 or 6) throughout the course. The race is now considered to be the toughest one-day elite race in the Oceania region. The race is held in January each year, making it one of the first races on the UCI Calendar, and a key chance for teams and riders to gain early UCI points.
