Samar Amer
Samar Amer Ibrahim Hamza (born 4 April 1995) is an Egyptian freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal in the women's 76kg event at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. She became the first woman representing Egypt to reach a final at the World Wrestling Championships. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Career In 2016, she competed in the women's freestyle 75kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in which she was eliminated in the round of 32 by Ekaterina Bukina. In 2021, she won the silver medal in the 76 kg event at the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series 2021 held in Rome, Italy. She qualified at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament to represent Egypt at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Freestyle Wrestling
Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules. Freestyle wrestling, like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling. In both styles the ultimate goal is to throw and pin the opponent to the mat, which results in an immediate win. Unlike Greco-Roman, freestyle and collegiate wrestling allow the use of the wrestler's or the opponent's legs in offense and defense. The 50th Yasar Dogu Tournament 2022, was a wrestling event held in Istanbul, Turkey between 24 and 27 February 2022. It was held as the first of the ranking series together with the 2022 Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan Tournament. The 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament was the third regional qualifying tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The event was held from 2 to 4 April 2021, in Hammamet, Tunisia. Qualification summary A total of 36 athletes secured a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan. Two spots were given to each of the weight classes in every event. This allows a total of 12 available spots for each event.
