Sam White (October 16, 1906August 8, 2006) was an American film producer, film director and actor. White was born in Los Angeles on to parents who had immigrated from Austria and Hungary. In 1937, he married Claretta Ellis, a studio contract dancer. They were married for 65 years until her death in 2002. For much of the 1930s, Sam White directed numerous musical sequences in films such as ''Roberta (1935 film), Roberta'' with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Irene Dunne; ''Old Man Rhythm'' with Betty Grable and Charles Rogers (actor), Buddy Rogers; ''Top of the Town (film), Top of the Town'' with George Murphy; and ''Hooray for Love (film), Hooray for Love'', with Ann Sothern. Samuel White (15 May 1903 – 1972) was an English footballer who played as an outside right in the Football League for Darlington. Before joining Darlington, he was on the books of Leeds United and Hull City without playing in the League for either. Life and career White was born on 15 May 1903 in Newburn, Northumberland, the son of John White, an engineering fitter and turner, and his wife Barbara. At the time of the 1911 UK Census, the family was living in nearby Walbottle and the seven-year-old White was the fifth of nine surviving children. He played football for Newburn and for Annfield Plain before joining Second Division club Leeds United in May 1927. He played for Leeds' reserves in the Central League, but not for the first team, and moved on to Second Division Hull City a year later. Sammy White ''(né'' Samuel Kwait; 28 May 1894 Providence, Rhode Island – 3 March 1960 Beverly Hills, California) was an American vaudeville song-and-dance comedian who appeared in a few films. He appeared with Lew Clayton, as Clayton and White, in the Broadway show ''Schubert Gaieties of 1919''. Career With his first wife, Eva Puck, White appeared in vaudeville as Puck and White. They starred in the original Broadway stage version of the classic musical ''Show Boat'' (1927). In ''Show Boat'', he played the role of comic dancer Frank Schultz, and Puck played the role of Ellie May Chipley, who eventually marries Frank. Sammy White (born March 3, 1954) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). After attending Grambling State University, White played all 10 seasons (1976–1985) of his professional career as a wide receiver with the Minnesota Vikings, winning the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year and UPI NFL-NFC Rookie of the Year awards in 1976. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection in 1976 and 1977. In 128 career games, he totaled 393 receptions, 6,400 receiving yards, and 50 touchdowns. College career White played at Grambling from 1972-1975, playing on the same team as future NFL quarterback and Super Bowl XXII MVP Doug Williams during his final two seasons. Sammy Charles White (July 7, 1927 – August 4, 1991) was a Major League Baseball catcher and right-handed batter who played with the Boston Red Sox (1951–59), Milwaukee Braves (1961) and Philadelphia Phillies (1962). He was a solid defensive catcher, with a good arm and the ability to get the most out of a Boston pitching staff that included Mel Parnell, Ellis Kinder, Bill Monbouquette, Mike Fornieles and Frank Sullivan.
