Sam Virgo
Samantha Virgo (born 20 February 1987) is a former Australian rules footballer playing for and co-captaining Gold Coast in the AFL Women's until 2021. She previously played 15 games over three seasons with Brisbane. Early life Virgo was born in 1987 in Blackwood, South Australia. She won the club best and fairest at Griffith-Moorooka in 2015 and was equal winner of the Queensland Women's AFL (QWAFL) best and fairest in 2016 while playing at Yeronga South Brisbane. AFLW career Brisbane Virgo was recruited by with the number 66 pick in the 2016 AFL Women's draft. She was announced as one of the Brisbane Lions' "values leaders" to assist captain Emma Zielke alongside Emily Bates, Sabrina Frederick-Traub and Leah Kaslar in January 2017. Blackwood, South Australia
Blackwood is a south eastern suburb located in the foothills of Adelaide, South Australia. It is part of the local government area of the City of Mitcham. History The name "Blackwood" most likely comes from either the Acacia melanoxylon, also known as the Australian blackwood, which grows in the nearby Mount Lofty Ranges, or the Eucalyptus odorata, which grows in Blackwood and has dark bark. The earliest reference to Blackwood was a mention of Blackwood Vale Farm in 1847, though this is in present-day Glenalta. One of the earliest places named for Blackwood was the Blackwood Inn, which opened in 1869. In 1880 it changed names to the Belair Hotel. Leah Kaslar (born 11 September 1985) is an Australian rules footballer who played for and co-captained Brisbane and the Gold Coast in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Early life Kaslar was born in 1985 in Caringbah, New South Wales and moved with her family to Cairns, Queensland before her first birthday. She first played football as a teenager in Cairns and moved to the Gold Coast shortly after her 21st birthday where she began playing football for Coolangatta Tweed Heads in the QAFLW. Brisbane Lions (AFLW) Players
The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. 2021 AFL Women's Season
The 2021 AFL Women's season was the fifth season of the AFL Women's competition, the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia. The season featured fourteen clubs, ran from 28 January until 17 April, and comprised a 9-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top six clubs. The premiership was won by the for the first time, after it defeated by 18 points in the AFL Women's Grand Final. Format The previous two AFLW seasons were formatted with the assistance of conferences, which split the league's clubs into two ranking tables. The AFL elected to remove the conferences for the 2021 season and revert to a single ladder. The ''Gold Coast Bulletin'' is a daily newspaper serving Australia's Gold Coast region. It is published as ''The Gold Coast Bulletin'' on weekdays and the ''Weekend Bulletin'' at weekends. It is owned by News Corp Australia. History The newspaper has undergone a number of masthead and ownership changes. When Patrick Joseph McNamara started the paper in 1885, he worked in a tin shed on Southport's Lawson Street.
