Samuel Frederick Smith (born 19 May 1992) is an English singer and songwriter. After rising to prominence in October 2012 by featuring on Disclosure's breakthrough single "Latch", which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart, they were subsequently featured on Naughty Boy's " La La La", which became a number one single in May 2013. In December 2013, Smith was nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll, winning both. Smith's debut studio album, ''In the Lonely Hour'', was released in May 2014 on Capitol Records UK. The album's lead single, " Lay Me Down", was released prior to "La La La". Samuel James Smith (7 September 1909 – November 1994) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He scored 17 goals in 46 appearances in the Football League playing for Birmingham, Norwich City and Walsall. Smith was born in Pelsall, which was then in Staffordshire. He played for Walsall LMS before joining Birmingham in 1930. He scored twice on his debut against local rivals Aston Villa, and finished the 1931–32 season with ten goals from 15 league games, but the following season Bob Gregg regained his place alongside Joe Bradford in attack. Under George Liddell, who took over from Leslie Knighton as manager, Smith played rarely,Matthews, p. 176. and in 1934 he followed Knighton to Chelsea. Walter Alvah Samuel Smith (4 August 1929 – 8 February 2012), known as Sam Smith, was a Canadian psychologist and academic who served as President of the University of Lethbridge and of Athabasca University. Smith was born on 4 August 1929 in Thomas, Oklahoma, and grew up in Redwood City, California. He received his baccalaureate degree at the University of Redlands and his Master's degree and doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania. Samuel Chestley Smith Sr. (January 27, 1943May 18, 2022) was an American professional basketball player who played four seasons in the American Basketball Association (ABA). He played for the Minnesota Muskies, Kentucky Colonels, and Utah Stars from 1967 to 1971.
