Sam Schachter
Samuel Schachter (born May 8, 1990) is a Canadian Olympic beach volleyball player. In 2010 he won the FIVB World Junior (U-21) Championship with Garrett May. At the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel, he and Team Canada won a silver medal. He and partner Josh Binstock were 2014 Canadian national champions, and represented Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he and Binstock earned silver medals. Early and personal life Schachter was born in North York, Ontario, now lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and is Jewish. His parents are Jon and Doris Schachter, and he has an older brother Nathan. He attended Westmount Collegiate Institute for high school. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, competing for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, with whom he was Ontario University Athletics Rookie of the Year. The Toronto Varsity Blues is the intercollegiate sports program at the University of Toronto. Its 43 athletic teams regularly participate in competitions held by Ontario University Athletics and U Sports. The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships (also known as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1 due to sponsorship reasons) was the eleventh edition of the tournament and the world championship for the sport of beach volleyball for both men and women. The tournament was held from 28 July to 6 August 2017 in Vienna, Austria. The tournament had a prize money of USD $500,000 per gender. Beach Volleyball At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's beach volleyball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took place at the Copacabana Stadium. The competition was held from 6 to 18 August 2016. Twenty four teams with 48 athletes around the world competed for the gold medal. The medals for the tournament were presented by Bernard Rajzman, Brazil, member of the International Olympic Committee, and the gifts were presented by Dr. Ary Graça Filho, President of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball. The 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was an international beach volleyball circuit organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
The FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of ' (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1962 they have been held every four years. The current champion is Italy, who won their fourth title at the 2022 tournament, defeating Poland in the final. The current format of the competition involves a qualification phase, which currently takes place over the preceding three years, to determine which teams qualify for the tournament phase, which is often called the ''World Championship Finals''. A silver medal in sports and other similar areas involving competition is a medal made of, or plated with, silver awarded to the second-place finisher, or runner-up, of contests or competitions such as the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, etc. The outright winner receives a gold medal and the third place a bronze medal.
