Sam McCartan
Sam McCartan (born 1999/2000) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for the St Loman's club and at senior level for Westmeath county team. He scored a goal against Laois in the 2022 Tailteann Cup. He passed the ball to Lorcan O'Toole for a second goal in the semi-final that got them past Offaly and into the competition's inaugural final. McCartan is a grandson of Seán Purcell and is related to Ciarán Kilkenny. St Loman's GAA
St Loman's Mullingar GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Mullingar, Ireland. History The club was founded with the name Mental Hospital and represented the staff of St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar, a psychiatric hospital which operated from 1855–2015. They played under the name Springfield Stars in 1910, becoming Mental Hospital in the 1920s and St. Loman's Mullingar in the late 1950s. The club plays at St Loman's Mullingar Sports Ground on the Delvin Road. The Westmeath county football team represents Westmeath in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Westmeath GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The Laois county football team ( ) represents Laois in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Laois GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. 2022 Tailteann Cup
The 2022 Tailteann Cup was the inaugural edition of the Tailteann Cup and is the second-tier of Gaelic football for senior county teams (the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is the first-tier trophy). It was contested by up to sixteen teams from Divisions 3 and 4 of the 2022 National Football League plus New York. Division 3 or 4 teams initially competed in their provincial championship and if they reached their provincial final, they continued in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, progressing to the All-Ireland Qualifiers, whereas if they were beaten in their provincial final, they did not participate in the 2022 Tailteann Cup. O'Toole Park ( ga, Páirc Uí Thuathail), also known as Lorcan O'Toole Park ( ga, Páirc Lorcáin Uí Thuathail), is a Gaelic games venue in Crumlin, Dublin. The 2022 Tailteann Cup Final was the inaugural final of the Tailteann Cup and the culmination of the 2022 Tailteann Cup. Seán Purcell
Seán Purcell (17 December 1928– 27 August 2005), was a Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team. Best known as a centre half-forward, he played in most outfield positions during his career. In 2009 he was named in the ''Sunday Tribune''s list of the "125 Most Influential People In GAA History". Born in Tuam, County Galway, Purcell was educated at Tuam Christian Brothers School and St Jarlath's College. He played in the St Jarlath's College side that won the Hogan Cup in 1947, beating St Patrick's Grammar School, Armagh in the final at Croke Park in Dublin. His nickname "The Master" originated when he taught at Strawberry Hill National School in Dunmore. His footballing career spanned three decades, from the 1940s to the 1960s. Ciarán Kilkenny
Ciarán Kilkenny (born 7 July 1993) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Dublin county team and as a dual player for his club Castleknock. He was previously on the playing list of Australian rules football club Hawthorn, as a rookie. He has featured on an advertising billboard campaign in India. Early life Kilkenny attended Scoil Oilibhéir in Clonsilla. Hurling Kilkenny represented Dublin at underage at several levels. Despite being previously offered a place on the Dublin senior hurling panel, he chose to dedicate his time solely to football. Kilkenny does, however, still play hurling for his club, Castleknock.
