Sam Henderson
Sam Henderson (born October 18, 1969) is an American cartoonist, writer, and expert on American comedy history. He is best known for his ongoing comic book series ''Magic Whistle''. He was a contributor to the animated television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants'' and '' Camp Lazlo''. Henderson has contributed work to ''Duplex Planet Illustrated'', '' Zero Zero'', '' 9-11: Artists Respond, Volume One'', ''Mega-Pyton'', ''Maakies'', ''Nib-Lit'', ''Legal Action Comics'', and the animated shorts compilation '' God Hates Cartoons''. He has also been a past participant in Robert Sikoryak's ''Carousel'' multimedia slideshow series. Biography Henderson was born in Woodstock, New York. He attended Boiceville, New York's Onteora High School, graduating in 1987, and the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he graduated in 1991. Alternative Press Expo
The Alternative Press Expo (APE) was a comic book festival and alternative comics convention that operated from 1994 to 2017. Founded by Slave Labor Graphics publisher Dan Vado, APE focused on self-published, independent, and alternative cartoonists and comic publishers. History APE was organized by Vado in 1994 as an event for artists to "promote themselves without having to drown out a 50-million-watt display by some huge publisher." The first APE was held as a one-day event in San Jose, California. Vado transferred management of APE to Comic-Con International in 1995. Minicomic
A minicomic is a creator-published comic book, often photocopied and stapled or with a handmade binding. In the United Kingdom and Europe the term small press comic is equivalent with minicomic, reserved for those publications measuring A6 (105 mm × 148 mm) or less. Minicomics, sometimes called ashcan copies, and sometimes zine comics, are a common inexpensive way for those who want to make their own comics on a very small budget, with mostly informal means of distribution. A number of cartoonists — such as Jessica Abel, Julie Doucet, and Adrian Tomine — have started their careers this way and later gone on to more traditional types of publishing, while other established artists — such as Matt Feazell and John Porcellino — continue to publish minicomics as their main means of production. Dan Povenmire
Daniel Kingsley Povenmire ( ; born September 18, 1963) is an American animator, writer, director, producer, and voice actor. With Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, Povenmire co-created the Disney animated series ''Phineas and Ferb'' and ''Milo Murphy's Law'', in both of which he voiced the character Heinz Doofenshmirtz. In October 2020, Povenmire announced a new series for Disney Channel titled ''Hamster & Gretel'', which premiered in 2022. Povenmire grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where he was an art student, and where he spent summers outdoors and making movies. Jay Lender (born June 14, 1969 in New Haven, Connecticut, United States) is an American television writer, storyboard artist and director. He is a former writer and storyboard director for ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. Previous to his work on ''SpongeBob'', Lender designed and drew backgrounds for Nickelodeon's ''Hey Arnold!''. He is the son of the founder of Lender's Bagels, Murray Lender. Since leaving Nickelodeon, Lender has written scripts for video games with his writing partner Micah Wright, and continues to develop animated series concepts as well as drawing the occasional SpongeBob comic strip for ''Nickelodeon Magazine''. The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks. Harvey Award
The Harvey Awards are given for achievement in comic books. Named for writer-artist Harvey Kurtzman, the Harvey Awards were founded by Gary Groth in 1988, president of the publisher Fantagraphics, to be the successor to the Kirby Awards that were discontinued in 1987. The Harvey Awards are now nominated by the Harvey Awards Nomination Committee. The winners are selected by an open vote among comic-book professionals.
