Sam Gibson (baseball)
Samuel Braxton Gibson (August 5, 1899 – January 31, 1983) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played five seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1926–28), New York Yankees (1930) and New York Giants (1932). Born in King, North Carolina, Gibson attended Catawba College before making his major league debut on April 19, 1926. He was a starting pitcher on manager Ty Cobb's Tigers, winning 12 games and throwing nearly 200 innings in his rookie season. In a game against the Philadelphia Athletics in 1928, he allowed the 4,000th hit of Cobb's career. After playing smaller roles on the Yankees and Giants, Gibson played fourteen seasons in the minor-league Pacific Coast League for the San Francisco Seals, Portland Beavers and Oakland Oaks in 1931 and from 1933 to 1945. Sam Gibson (born 27 May 1986) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the North Melbourne Football Club and the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by North Melbourne in the 2012 rookie draft, with pick 63. Gibson made his debut in round 12, 2012, against at Carrara Stadium. At the end of the 2012 season Gibson signed a two-year deal with North Melbourne Football Club and was promoted to the senior list. He was told the 6th of October 2017 that his contract would not be renewed. In his 135-game career, he has had only had 3 matches with less than 10 disposals, all three coming when he started as the sub. In Round 16, 2016 Gibson played his 100th consecutive game from debut, the eighth player to do so. Gibson never missed a game for North Melbourne eventually going on to play 130 games from debut to when he was delisted. Sam Franklyn Gibson commonly known as Bode Gibson (born October 15, 1952) is a Sierra Leonean politician who served as Mayor of Freetown 2012 until 2018. He is a veteran politician and a prominent member of the ruling All People's Congress (APC). Before he was elected as Mayor of Freetown, Bode Gibson served as an elected councillor in the Freetown City Council municipality, representing Wilberforce. He is a teacher by profession. In the 2012 Local Councils elections, Bode Gibson was elected as Mayor of Freetown with 68.56% of the vote, defeating his main opponent Abraham Sesay-Jones of the Sierra Leone People's Party, who took 28.75%.
