''Samige Kathawa (Sam's story)'' ( si, සැමීගේ කතාව) is a 2014 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama film directed by Priyankara Vittanachchi and co-produced by Priyankara Vittanachchi, Wimal Deshapriya, Rohan Fonseka for Maheel Films. It stars Jagath Chamila in lead role along with Sanath Gunathilake, Nilmini Buwaneka and Menik Kurukulasuriya. Music composed by Lakshman Joseph De Saram. It is the 1202nd film in the Sri Lankan cinema. The film has based on the Gratiaen Prize winning novel '' Sam's Story'' of Captain Elmo Jayawardena. Jagath Chamila
Jagath Chamila Fernando ( si, ජගත් චමිල: born 6 June 1972) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre and television. He made his film debut in 1992 in the Sinhalese film ''Guru Gedara'', portraying a child. In 2013, he won the award for the Best Actor at New York International Film festival for his portrayal of Sami in ''Samige Kathava'', a film based on Elmo Jayawardena's novel ''Sam's Story'' (2001). He is considered one of five actors who have dominated the Sri Lankan stage by critics. Family Chamila was born on 6 June 1972. His father, Tinil Fernando, was a school principal and his mother, Veenal Biatrice, is a housewife. He has two brothers, Ajith Tinil and Prasad Saman, and one, sister Nirosha Shayamali. Gratiaen Prize
The Gratiaen Prize is an annual literary prize for the best work of literary writing in English by a resident of Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1992 by the Sri Lankan-born Canadian novelist Michael Ondaatje with the money he received as joint-winner of the Booker Prize for his novel ''The English Patient''. The prize is named after Ondaatje's mother, Doris Gratiaen. Administered by the Gratiaen Trust based in Sri Lanka, the Gratiaen Prize accepts printed books and manuscripts in a range of genres including fiction, poetry, drama, creative prose and literary memoir. Entries may be submitted by both authors and publishers. Submissions are accepted between 1 and 31 December in a given year and are assessed by a panel of three judges appointed by the trust who are required to short-list three to five entries.
