Salyan ( az, Salyan), is a city and the capital of the Salyan District of Azerbaijan. The city of Salyan is industrialized and known for processing caviar. History The city has been a continuous settlement of ''sal'' tribe, after whom the city named and occupied by Kura river. Salyan was part of Quba Khanate during 1680 to 1782 and ruled by various khans. Salyan was the administrative center of the Javad Uyezd of the Baku Governorate. Throughout its history, Salyan has suffered from floods because of its proximity to the river and the relatively low elevation of most of the town. Administrative Divisions Of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is administratively divided into 66 districts () and 11 cities () that are subordinate to the Republic. Out of these, 7 districts and 1 city is located within the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The districts are further divided into municipalities (). Additionally, the districts of Azerbaijan are grouped into 14 Economic Regions (). Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League ( az, Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası) is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of 8 clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. Samadagha Shikhlarov
Samadagha Shikhlarov ( az, Səmədağa Məhəmməd oğlu Şıxlarov; 5 September 1955 – 1 June 2021) was an Azerbaijani professional footballer who played as forward for Neftchi Baku PFC, Khazar, OIK Kiev, Chiraqqala Siyazan. Shikhlarov was well known for his heading ability, remembered for his two goals against Spartak Moscow in 1982. He played for the Neftchi Baku up to 152 times, by scoring 21 goals in Soviet Top League and twice for the Soviet Union Olympic national football team. He was appointed Neftchi's scout in March 2009. Khalil Rza Uluturk ( az, Xəlil Rza Ulutürk), (21 October 1932, Salyan – 22 June 1994, Baku) was an Azerbaijani poet. Education and career In 1954, he graduated from the Department of Journalism at Azerbaijan State University (currently Baku State University). Lieutenant General Rail Rzayev ( az, Rail Qurban oğlu Rzayev; March 10, 1945 – February 11, 2009) was the Commander of the Azerbaijani Air Force from shortly after Azerbaijan's independence in the early 1990s, to his death in 2009. Mughan FK ( az, Muğan Futbol Klubu) was an Azerbaijani football club, based in Salyan.. The club reached the Azerbaijan Premier League for the first time in 2008–2009. The club was first promoted after FK Masallı withdrew for the 2008/09 season. On 31 October 2008, FK NBC Salyan changed its name to FK Mughan. Salyan District (Azerbaijan)
Salyan District ( az, Salyan rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the east of the country and belongs to the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Bilasuvar, Sabirabad, Hajigabul, Baku, Neftchala, and the city of Shirvan. Its capital and largest city is Salyan.
