Saluda Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,370 and it contained 619 housing units. It was created by the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 13, 1817. Saluda is derived from a Native American name meaning "river of corn". Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , of which (or 99.10%) is land and (or 0.90%) is water. Saluda, North Carolina
Saluda is a city in Polk and Henderson counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. Saluda is famous for sitting at the top of the Norfolk Southern Railway's Saluda Grade, which was the steepest main line standard-gauge railway line in the United States until Norfolk Southern ceased operations on the line in 2001. Saluda is close to the South Carolina state line, between Asheville, North Carolina, and Spartanburg, South Carolina. History Saluda's name came from the Cherokee word ''Tsaludiyi'', meaning "green corn place". The first name of the area by European settlers was "Pace's Ridge", from the Pace family who inhabited the area. Saluda Grade is the steepest standard-gauge mainline railway grade in the United States.. Saluda, Virginia
Saluda is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Middlesex County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 769. The Middlesex County Courthouse was built between 1850 and 1874 by architects William R. Jones and John P. Hill, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A new courthouse complex was built in the 2003–2004 time-frame, but the opening was stalled due to various construction problems, leading to a legal dispute between the County board and the contractor. It was eventually opened in 2007. An older notable building is the Christ Church. The explosion of the paddle steamer ''Saluda'', near Lexington, Missouri, in 1852, was one of the worst disasters in Missouri River history.
