Salmaniya Medical Complex
Salmaniya Medical Complex ( ar, مجمع السلمانية الطبي) is a public hospital situated in the Salmaniya district of Manama in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Established in 1957 and having a bed capacity of approximately 1,200 beds, it is the largest tertiary hospital in the country. The hospital provides secondary, tertiary, and emergency healthcare services as well as specialised outpatient clinics for the general public. Residency programs in the hospital are either Arab Board or Saudi Board certified. The hospital receives an average of 900-1000 patients a day and employs more than 2,000 physicians, nurses and workers. Bahrain's main morgue is situated in the complex. Salmaniya's emergency department receives more than 300,000 patients per year. The Psychiatric Hospital ( ar, مستشفى الطب النفسي) of Bahrain is a 296-bed tertiary care public hospital located in Salmaniya, Manama, Bahrain. It is the country's only public psychiatric teaching hospital, dating back to 1932. The hospital boasts 241 beds, handles an average of 1,195 psychiatric inpatient admissions and 20,000 outpatients on a yearly basis. History The establishment of a psychiatric facility in Bahrain dates back to 1930, when Charles Belgrave, the British advisor to the King of Bahrain, Bahraini hakim, proposed the establishment of an asylum under the direct control of the Capital Governorate, Bahrain, Manama municipality, for the safekeeping of "local lunatics." In 1932, a small house in Manama was rented out for that purpose, with a maximum capacity of 14 patients (12 male and 2 female). Governorates Of Bahrain
Bahrain is divided into four Governorates: the Capital, Northern, Southern and Muharraq. Until September 2014, there were five, when the Central Governorate was abolished. Each governorate is governed by a Governor, appointed by the Prime Minister, and has its own municipality council, with separate elections for them. The first municipal elections in Bahrain held after independence in 1971, was held in conjunction with the 2002 Bahraini general election. The Capital Governorate () is one of the four governorates of Bahrain. The governorate includes Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
