Salih Mahdi Ammash
Salih Mahdi Ammash ( ar, صالح مهدي عماش; 1924 – 30 January 1985) was an Iraqi historian, writer, author, poet and Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party – Iraq Region, Iraqi Regional Branch politician and Iraqi army officer who sat on the Regional Command of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party – Iraq Region, Regional Command from 1963 to 1971. Life He was born into a peasant family in Baghdad, 1924. Ammash attended the Baghdad Military College and the Baghdad Staff College. He joined the Ba'ath Party in 1952 and become one of the first military Ba'athists in the Iraqi Regional Branch. Ammash was a member of the Free Officers Movement which toppled the Kingdom of Iraq, Iraqi monarchy. Ammash was elected to the Regional Command for three separate terms. Iraq has had three vice presidents or deputy presidents serving concurrently. The office of Vice President was historically largely ceremonial but prestigious. In post-war Iraq, the Constitution of Iraq, in its "Transitional Guidelines," creates a three-member presidency (or presidential) council, consisting of the president of Iraq and two deputy presidents, who must act in unison. The presidency council had three members to accommodate Iraq's three largest groups: Sunni Muslim Arabs, Shiite Muslim Arabs, and the mostly Sunni Kurds. Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash ( ar, هدى صالح مهدي عماش) is an Iraqi scientist and academic, often demonized as "Mrs. Anthrax" by Anglo-American media for her unproven association with the discontinued Iraqi biological weapons program as a part of the propaganda campaign to justify the Iraq War. Ammash was number 53 on the Pentagon's list of the 55 most wanted, the five of hearts in the deck of most wanted Iraqi playing cards, and the only woman to be featured. She was captured by coalition forces but later released without being charged. Life She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Baghdad, followed by a Masters in microbiology from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. She spent four years at the University of Missouri in pursuit of her doctorate in microbiology, which she received in December 1983.
