Sali Ormëni
Sali Ormeni (15 January 1914 – 2 March 1951) was an Albanian army colonel and politician who served as the 20th director of the Albanian State Police. He died on March 2, 1951, one week after the bombing of the Soviet embassy. The government authorities stated at the time that he had committed suicide, but this has later been disputed. His body was found near the village of Papër, Elbasan. Career Sali Ormeni was born on January 15, 1914, in the village of Tragjas, Vlorë County. From an early age, he associated himself with the National Liberation Movement (Albania), Anti-Fascist Movement for National Liberation and on January 3, 1943, was accepted as a member of the Party of Labour of Albania, Albanian Communist Party. Tragjas
Tragjas is a community in the Vlorë County, southwestern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Vlorë. History The village has been inhabited since ancient times where the ruins of the city of Sofa are located near old Tragjas dating to the Illyrian tribes to the IV century BCE. The village revolted in 1432 and the castle of Sofa was ruined by the Ottomans.The village joined Skanderbeg's rebellion in 1444 and Gjon Boçari from the village built a second castle in the village. The village continued to join local rebellions during the following years: 1537,1581,1833 and 1847 and in 1912 it supported greatly the Albanian founding fathers. During World War II Tragjas was part of the battlefield of the battle of Gjorm, where Albanian resistance units defeated and routed the troops of the Kingdom of Italy. Vlorë County
Vlorë County (; sq, Qarku i Vlorës) is one of the 12 counties of the Republic of Albania with the capital in Vlorë. The county spans and has a total population of 187,675 people as of 2021. It borders the counties of Fier and Gjirokastër, as well as the Adriatic and Ionian Sea. Vlorë is geographically a very mountainous county. The Party of Labour of Albania ( sq, Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë, PPSh), sometimes referred to as the Albanian Workers' Party (AWP), was the ruling and sole legal party of Albania during the communist period (1945–1991). National Liberation Movement (Albania)
The National Liberation Movement ( sq, Lëvizja Nacional-Çlirimtare; or ''Lëvizja Antifashiste Nacional-Çlirimtare'' (LANÇ)), also translated as National Liberation Front, was an Albanian communist resistance organization that fought in World War II. Vlorë ( , ; sq-definite, Vlora) is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Vlorë County and Vlorë Municipality. 1951 Executions In Albania
The People's Republic of Albania executed 22 intellectuals without trial on 26 February 1951, as ordered by Enver Hoxha. They were accused of bombing the Soviet embassy in Tirana. The victims were 21 males and one female. One day earlier, Jonuz Kaceli was killed while accused of the same crime. It was the first time the Agitation and Propaganda law was used. Background Arrests The 22 individuals were arrested and put in prison between 20 and 22 February 1951, then executed by firing squad on 26 February. The pretext was the explosion of a small amount of dynamite in the Soviet Embassy in Tirana on 19 February, for which the arrested persons were accused of. Albanian Police
