Salesian High School (Los Angeles)
Bishop Mora Salesian High School ("Salesian High School") is an all-boys Roman Catholic high school founded in 1958 and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the community of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, California. It is named after Francisco Mora y Borrell, Bishop of the former Monterey-Los Angeles Diocese. The high school is associated with the religious order, the Salesians of Don Bosco. Early history The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, through the insistence of Cardinal James Francis McIntyre, entrusted Bishop Mora Salesian High School to the care and spirit of the Salesians of Don Bosco as a way of building up the faith community of Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, and surrounding communities. Boyle Heights, historically known as Paredón Blanco, is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, located east of the Los Angeles River. Francisco Mora Y Borrell
Francisco Mora y Borrell (November 25, 1827 – August 3, 1905) was a Spanish-born prelate of the Catholic Church. He was the third Bishop of Monterey-Los Angeles, serving from 1878 to 1896. Biography Early life Mora was born on November 25, 1827, in the Catalonian village of Gurb to Miguel Mora and Rosa Borrell. He received his early education at the parochial school of Sant Andreu de Gurb before being placed at Casa de Caridad, a school for orphans in Vic. He began his studies for the priesthood at the diocesan seminary in Vic, but when Bishop Thaddeus Amat y Brusi appealed for missionaries in California, Mora offered his services. He came to the United States in 1855 and completed his theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville, Missouri. Luis Saúl Silva López (born 10 December 1988) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or forward. José Huizar
José Luis Huizar (born September 10, 1968) is a Mexican-American politician and a former member of the Los Angeles City Council. Huizar was arrested and indicted on June 23, 2020, on federal corruption charges. Huizar was elected on November 8, 2005, in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the then-mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa.
