Salem Zenia
Salem Zenia (born September 26, 1962 in Freha, Tizi Ouzou Province, Algeria) is a Kabyle people, Kabyle writer. He studied in Frèha and later in Azazga High School and journalism (distance studies) in Ecole Universalis (Liège, Belgique) . He has worked as a journalist for several publications and participated in several Kabyle movements. He created ''Racines/Iz’uran'' journal in 1998 and was awarded with the honour diploma of Tamazgha association in Paris. He lives in Barcelona as a refugee. Premio Ostana "Special Prize" In June 2017, Zenia was awarded the "Special Prize" of the Premio Ostana, to be awarded by the Municipality of Ostana, Cuneo, Italy. It is an annual prize and cultural initiative organized by the Municipality of Ostana and by the Cultural Association Chambra d'Oc, dedicated to languages and to literary authors who use a "mother tongue", a present-day minority language of territorial belonging, in their works. Kabyle People
The Kabyle people ( kab, Izwawen or ''Leqbayel'' or ''Iqbayliyen'', ) are a Berber ethnic group indigenous to Kabylia in the north of Algeria, spread across the Atlas Mountains, east of Algiers. They represent the largest Berber-speaking population of Algeria and the second largest in North Africa. Many of the Kabyles have emigrated from Algeria, influenced by factors such as the Algerian Civil War, cultural repression by the central Algerian government, and overall industrial decline. Azazga
Azazga, or ‘Azazqah (), is a town in the Tizi Ouzou Province in northern Algeria. It is the third largest Kabyle city, after Béjaïa and Tizi Ouzou. It is the district seat of the so-named Daïra. The population in 2008 was 34,683. History Azazga is a rich locality by its culture and its history. It was created under the French occupation in 1882. It was the chief town of the canton of the commune of Haut-Sébaou.
