Saleh Aridi
Saleh Farhan Al Aridi ( ar, صالح العريضي ) (1957 - 10 September 2008) was a Lebanese politician. A leader and one of the founders of the Lebanese Democratic Party (LDP), headed by Prince Talal Arslan, his father's, Sheikh Abu Saleh Farhan Aridi, a senior sheikh of the spiritual authority of elders Druze. Aridi was killed in a car bomb attack near his house in his village Baissour, located in the Aley District of Mount Lebanon. Political background Aridi emphasized close relations with Syria and was a close adviser and right hand for Prince Talal Arslan, head of the LDP. Baissour
Baissour or Bayssour, ( ar, بيصور) is a village located in the Aley District of Mount Lebanon. It is above sea level and shares a border with Aley, Kaifoun, Kabr Shmoon, Majdlaya, and Ainab. Baissour River (Naher Baissour, نهر بيصور) is home to many restaurants and resorts. Thousands of tourists visit Baissour every year, and along with the restaurants along the river, one of the biggest attractions is the Radar area. This beautiful, mountainous, tree covered picnic and recreational area is located at the highest point of Baissour and is accessible year round. Starting in 2004, a series of bombings and assassinations struck Lebanon, most of them in and around the capital, Beirut. This wave of bombings began with the assassination attempt on Marwan Hamadeh, then became more intense with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri on February 14, 2005, which touched off the Cedar Revolution and the withdrawal of Syrian troops. After the massive protests following Hariri's killing, several more bombings hit Lebanon. These bombings and assassinations came after September 2004, when the Lebanese Parliament was pressured by Syria to extend the term of pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud through a constitutional amendment.
