Sale Of The Century
''Sale of the Century'' (stylized as ''$ale of the Century'') is an American television game show that originally debuted on September 29, 1969, on NBC daytime. It was one of three NBC game shows to premiere on that date, the other two being the short-lived game shows ''Letters to Laugh-In'' and ''Name Droppers''. The series aired until July 13, 1973, and a weekly syndicated series began that fall and ran for one season. The rights to the show were purchased in 1980 by Australian TV mogul Reg Grundy, who produced a similar show called ''Great Temptation'' in the 1970s. Grundy subsequently launched an Australian version of ''Sale of the Century''. Grundy's modified format was then used in a revived American ''Sale of the Century'' that aired on NBC from January 3, 1983 to March 24, 1989. ''Great Temptation'' was an Australian game show, produced by Reg Grundy Productions Pty. Ltd., that aired on the Seven Network The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network. Alex Trebek
George Alexander Trebek (; July 22, 1940 – November 8, 2020) was a Canadian-American game show host and television personality. He is best known for hosting the syndicated general knowledge quiz game show ''Jeopardy!'' for 37 seasons from its revival in 1984 until his death in 2020. Trebek also hosted a number of other game shows, including ''The Wizard of Odds'', '' Double Dare'', ''High Rollers'', '' Battlestars'', ''Classic Concentration'', and '' To Tell the Truth''. He also made appearances, usually as himself, in numerous films and television series. A native of Canada, Trebek became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998. He received the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host eight times for his work on ''Jeopardy!'' The Wizard Of Odds
''The Wizard of Odds'' is an American television game show hosted by Alex Trebek that aired on NBC from July 16, 1973, to June 28, 1974, in which people from the studio audience vied in a number of rounds, primarily games revolving around statistical questions. John Harlan announced the pilot; Los Angeles radio personality Sam Riddle was the show's first announcer; towards the end of the run, Charlie O'Donnell replaced him. Larry Blyden
Ivan Lawrence Blieden (June 23, 1925 – June 6, 1975), known as Larry Blyden, was an American actor, stage producer and director, and game show host. He made his Broadway stage debut in 1948 and went on to appear in numerous productions on and off Broadway. In 1972, he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in the revival of ''A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'' which he also produced. That same year, he became the host of the syndicated revival version of ''What's My Line?'' At the time of his death, Blyden was slated to host a new game show, ''Showoffs''. The series was produced by Filmways. Bill Wendell, then on the NBC staff, announced the show. Game play A panel of three celebrities, each playing for a member of the studio audience or home viewer, tried to predict how other celebrities answered a series of questions asked in pre-recorded interviews. ''Press Your Luck'' is an American television game show created by Bill Carruthers and Jan McCormack. It premiered on CBS daytime on September 19, 1983, and ended on September 26, 1986. The format is a retooling of an earlier Carruthers production, '' Second Chance'', hosted by Jim Peck and which aired on ABC in 1977. The game featured contestants collecting spins by answering trivia questions, and then later using the spins on an 18-space gameboard to win cash and prizes. The contestant who amassed the highest total in cash and prizes kept their winnings for the day and became the returning champion. ''Temptation'' was an Australian game show which premiered on the Nine Network on 30 May 2005 and aired at 7.00pm (5.30pm for most regionals). Hosted by Ed Phillips and Livinia Nixon, the show was a remake of ''Sale of the Century'', which aired on Nine in the same timeslot for more than twenty years between 1980 and 2001. ''Temptation'' had the same general format of its predecessor, but with several new features and a deemphasis on the "shopping" aspects of the endgame. The show ran until 30 November 2007, when it was placed on hiatus by the network following strong competition from game show ''Deal or No Deal'' on the rival Seven Network; during the hiatus, Nine filled the timeslot with episodes of the American sitcom ''Two and a Half Men''.
