Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson
Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson is a city in Les Pays-d'en-Haut Regional County Municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. It is partially named after and situated on the western shore of Lake Masson. History In the early 1860s, Édouard Masson (1826–1875), businessman and member of the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada from 1856 to 1864, invited many settlers to move to the former Terrebonne Seigneury and the surrounding area. In 1864, he was granted land in this area and contributed to the quick development of the parish, including the construction of a sawmill and a flour mill at the outflow of the lake which would be named after him later on. Also that same year, the Mission of Sainte-Marguerite was established, and the Parish Municipality of Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson was officially formed, both named after Margaret of Antioch of the third century. Estérel is a city (Quebec), city in Les Pays-d'en-Haut Regional County Municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. The municipal territory almost entirely extends around Lake Masson, whereas the village itself is situated on the eastern shore of this lake. History The area of Estérel was first part of the Parish Municipality of Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson, Quebec, Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson, which formed in the early 1860s. Around 1920, Baron Louis Empain, son of Belgian industrialist Baron Empain, Baron Édouard Empain, acquired substantially all the land around Lake Masson intending to build a resort called Estérel, named after the Esterel massif in Provence, south-east France. In 1939, the Estérel Post Office opened. In 1958, Fridolin Simard, an industrialist from Abitibi, bought over 2000 hectares of the baron's estate and completed the holiday resort. Bertrand is a provincial electoral district in the Lanaudière and Laurentides regions of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is not to be confused with the former, entirely different Bertrand electoral district located in the Montérégie region, which existed from 1981 to 1994; they used the same name but otherwise have nothing in common. It was created for the 1994 election from parts of Labelle, Prévost and Rousseau. It notably includes the municipalities of Saint-Adele, Rawdon and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. Isidore-Édouard-Candide Masson
Édouard Masson (May 4, 1826 – August 5, 1875) was a businessman and political figure in Canada East. Life He was born Isidore-Édouard-Candide Masson at Montreal in 1826, the son of seigneur and merchant Joseph Masson and the grandson of Jean-Baptiste Raymond. Masson studied at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal and then in England. With his older brother Wilfred, he took over the family business when his father died in 1847. He was also a major in the local militia and president of the Montreal Gas Company. In 1855, he became a member of the municipal council for Montreal. In 1856, he was elected to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada for Thousand Islands division; he was defeated by Léandre Dumouchel in 1864 when he ran again in the same division. Masson founded a settlement at Sainte-Marguerite, which later became the parish of Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson. He died at Montreal in 1875. The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016.
