Saint Lucia At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Saint Lucia competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Saint Lucia Olympic Committee sent a team of five athletes, two men and three women, to compete only in sailing, swimming, and track and field at the Games, matching the nation's roster size with Sydney 2000 and beating the record by a single athlete set in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Two Saint Lucian athletes were awarded universality places to compete in their respective sporting events, while the rest of the team qualified directly for the Games on merit. High jumper and Pan American Games champion Levern Spencer spearheaded the Saint Lucian delegation for the third consecutive time, as the oldest and most experienced competitor (aged 32) and the nation's flag bearer in the opening ceremony. Other notable athletes on the roster featured Spencer's teammate Jeanelle Scheper and ex-NFL running back ...

The men's 100 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place between 13–14 August at the Olympic Stadium. 84 athletes from 57 nations competed. Background Billed as one of the most anticipated races in history, Usain Bolt of Jamaica entered as the world record holder, defending Olympic champion and the reigning world champion. He sought to become the first man to win three Olympic 100 m titles, en route to the "Triple-Triple"; 100m, 200m and 4 × 100 metres relay gold medals at three consecutive Olympic Games. Nations At The 2016 Summer Olympics
A nation is a community of people formed on the basis of a combination of shared features such as language, history, ethnicity, culture and/or society. A nation is thus the collective identity of a group of people understood as defined by those features. Some nations are equated with ethnic groups (see ethnic nationalism) and some are equated with affiliation to a social and political constitution (see civic nationalism and multiculturalism). A nation is generally more overtly political than an ethnic group. A nation has also been defined as a cultural-political community that has become conscious of its autonomy, unity and particular interests. The consensus among scholars is that nations are socially constructed and historically contingent. Throughout history, people have had an attachment to their kin group and traditions, territorial authorities and their homeland, but nationalism – the belief that state and nation should align as a nation state – did not become a promine ...

The women's high jump event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place between August 18–20, at the Olympic Stadium. Summary There were 17 athletes who made the final. The height of 1.93 proved to be the undoing for five of them, even though all of them had cleared 1.94 in qualifying the day earlier. Among the non-qualifiers were World indoor Champion Vashti Cunningham and European silver medalist Airinė Palšytė. Eight more were excised at 1.97 m, leaving the medalists plus one extra. Waving her fingers at the bar before she jumped, 37 year old Ruth Beitia remained perfect to that point. Mirela Demireva was jumping over her previous best but made it on her first attempt as well. She was in second place with one miss earlier in the competition. Blanka Vlašić had one miss at every height, a pattern that put her in third place. And making the bar on her last attempt, world leader Chaunté Lowe was in fourth place. All but Demireva had cleared 2.00 before, Lowe in 2016. Earlier ...
