St James School, Exeter
St James School is a mixed secondary school located in Exeter in the English county of Devon. Previously a foundation school administered by Devon County Council, in May 2016 St James School was converted to academy status. The school is now part of the Ted Wragg Trust, but continues to coordinate with Devon County Council for admissions. The school moved into new buildings in February 2006. St James School offers GCSEs and OCR Nationals as programmes of study for pupils. St James School is a coeducational Independent school (UK), independent day and boarding school located in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England. It comprises a Nursery School, Preparatory School, Senior School and Sixth Form. The school is associated with the Church of England Grimsby Minster, dedicated to James, son of Zebedee, St James. History Formerly known as St James Choir School, the school was founded on the premises of Grimsby's parish church, St James's (now known as Grimsby Minster). Canon James Peter Young, curate and later vicar at the church, was influenced by Nathaniel Woodard's education philosophy and established the school in 1880 to educate the church's choirboys. Classes were initially held in the Church's "Aqua Rooms", which became unsuitable. In 1882 the school became St James's College, with the intention of continuing to educate the boys after they outgrew the choir. St. James's School opened in the Eve Hill area of Dudley in 1842 for pupils aged 5–11. In 1989–1990 it was demolished, then rebuilt at the Black Country Living Museum. History The school was designed by William Bourne, who also designed the nearby church of St James and St John. The design was intended to reflect its support from the church. The school cost just under £500 with the majority of the funds being raised by public subscription. The running costs were to be raised by annual sermons, public donations and the two pennies that the children paid for their schooling every Monday morning. The school opened in 1842 and fund raising methods included the selling of medallions in order that the school could be of sufficient size to accommodate 300 pupils with a new extension at the rear. Established in 1955, Saint James School, Montgomery's oldest private school, serves about 900 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. History Saint James School began in 1955 as an independent elementary school, housed in Saint James United Methodist Church. In 1970, the school's enrollment doubled after the court ordered the desegregation of public schools.
