St. Hubert Street (officially in french: rue Saint-Hubert) is a north–south street that spans the island of Montreal. It is located east of Berri Street. It traverses the boroughs of Ville-Marie, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension and Ahuntsic-Cartierville. There is also a ''Rue Saint-Hubert'' in Laval's Pont-Viau district, running several blocks north from the Rivière des Prairies not far from the alignment of the Montreal street, although they are not connected. History The land where this street is located was donated by Hubert-Joseph Lacroix (1743-1821), whose family settled on this street, and was officially laid out in 1826. The large residences built here in the second half of the nineteenth century, mainly by the French-Canadian elite, preserve the character of the street's residential origins to this day. Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada with a population of 422,993 in 2016. Laval is geographically separated from the mainland to the north by the Rivière des Mille Îles, and from the Island of Montreal to the south by the Rivière des Prairies. Saint Antoine Street (officially in french: Rue Saint-Antoine), formerly known as Craig Street, is a street located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It runs to the south of Downtown Montreal and north of Old Montreal and Griffintown and Saint-Henri. It crosses the Quartier international de Montréal. Hubert-Joseph Lacroix
Joseph-Hubert Lacroix (May 5, 1743 – July 15, 1821) was a seigneur, businessman and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born Hubert-Joseph Lacroix in the Lower Town of Quebec City in 1743, the son of merchant Hubert-Joseph de la Croix. Lacroix would become a merchant himself in the town and helped defend it during the American invasion of 1775–6. In 1776, he settled at Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (later Laval), where he became involved in the fur trade. In 1791, he was named justice of the peace for Montreal district. He represented Effingham County in the 1st Parliament of Lower Canada; in 1796, he was elected to represent York County. He helped administer the seigneury of Blainville and, in 1806, inherited it from Marie-Anne-Thérèse Céloron de Blainville. In 1807, Lacroix was named a colonel in the militia. The Rivière des Prairies (; ), called the Back River in English, is a delta channel of the Ottawa River in southwestern Quebec, Canada. The Kanien'kehá:ka called it ''Skowanoti'', meaning "River behind the island". The river separates the cities of Laval and Montreal. Geography Flowing west to east, the Rivière des Prairies bisects the Hochelaga Archipelago and originates in the Lake of Two Mountains. Ahuntsic-Cartierville ( (local accent)) is a borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The borough was created following the 2002 municipal reorganization of Montreal.
