Saint-Marc-des-Carrières
Saint-Marc-des-Carrières is a town in Quebec, Canada, part of Portneuf Regional County Municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region. The place has earned the title of Rock Capital of Portneuf County because of its rock quarries that have played a significant role in the local economy. Even its name makes reference to these quarries (''carrière'' means "quarry"). History Since the early 19th century, the area has been known for its quarries of Trenton Limestone, that was used for many construction projects in that time period. The village, first known as Poiré, got its post office in 1863. By 1901, the place was called Châteauvert, in honour of Georges Châteauvert, who was postmaster, owner of the rock quarries, and first mayor from 1901 to 1903. Saint-Alban is a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. The place is known for its caves and crevices, and the gorge of the Sainte-Anne River. The "gorge" sector of the Sainte-Anne River is famous for its rock climbing walls. History The first settlers, coming from Saint-Ambroise-de-la-Jeune-Lorette, Deschambault, Grondines, and Sainte-Anne-de-la-Perade, began clearing the area around 1830. Saint-Casimir is a small village of about 1800 people in the Portneuf Regional County Municipality in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Sainte-Anne River, about southwest of Quebec City and northeast of Trois-Rivières. It was founded in 1836 by people who came from Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade following to the east along the Sainte-Anne. The name of Saint-Casimir was given in honour of Mr. Casimir Déry, a notary who paid for the construction of the church, which is in the top 10 of the most beautiful churches in the province of Québec. Portneuf is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly. Deschambault-Grondines, Quebec
Deschambault-Grondines is a municipality of about 2100 inhabitants in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in Portneuf Regional County Municipality. The municipality was incorporated in 2002 by the merger of the formerly independent villages of Deschambault and Grondines. The name Grondines was named by Samuel de Champlain himself. "Grondines" is from the French verb " gronder", meaning to rumble or roar. In 1674, The Grondines windmill was built and is the oldest windmill in Québec. The windmill was first a flour mill, and then a lighthouse. In 1842 the church Saint-Charles-Borromée was built in Grondines. Chantal Petitclerc (born December 15, 1969) is a Canadian wheelchair racer and a Senator from Quebec. Early life At the age of 13, Petitclerc lost the use of both legs in an accident when at a friend's farm, a heavy barn door fell on her, fracturing her spine at the L1-T12 vertebra. Gaston Jacques, a high school physical education teacher, was to have a decisive influence on her life when he taught her to swim for four lunch hours a week throughout high school as she was unable to participate in the gym course. In a 2011 interview, she stated that, " wimmingreally helped me get more fit and stronger, and helped me live a more independent life in a wheelchair."
