Saint-Esprit, Martinique
Saint-Esprit () is a commune in the French overseas department and region of Martinique. Overview Saint-Esprit was founded in the 18th century. The economy of the village used to based on sugar plantations. The original name of the village was ''Bourg des Coulisses'', due to the sugar cane which was transported by streams from the hill down to the mill in the valley. In 1833, Saint-Esprit was established as a commune. The Saint-Esprit Church was constructed in 1758 by the Capuchins. The church was relocated, and its former location is currently in use by the hospital. One of the bells of the church is named Sebastopol, and was taken during the Crimean War. The village is located in a forested zone along the Cacaos and the Coulisses River. The local football club is Stade Spiritain. Saint-Esprit, Quebec
Saint-Esprit (French for "Holy Spirit") is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Montcalm Regional County Municipality. It is located on both banks of the Saint-Esprit River, a tributary of the L'Assomption River. History The area's first settlers arrived at the end of 18th century and were mostly from L'Ange-Gardien, Beauport, and Saint-Sulpice. Originally, the area was identified as the Rivière-Saint-Esprit or Grand-Saint-Esprit Concession. In 1808, the Parish of Saint-Ours-du-Saint-Esprit was founded, however after 1838, the parish name was shortened to just Saint-Esprit to avoid confusion with another parish called Saint-Ours in the Diocese of Montreal. In 1852, its post office opened and in 1855, the Parish Municipality of Saint-Ours-du-Saint-Esprit was formed. Saint-Esprit is a Catholic church in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France, in the southeast of the city. History The population in the neighbourhood in the eastern part of the 12th arrondissement had been growing since 1860, creating a need for a large church. The triangular parcel of land the church now occupies between avenue Daumesnil and rue Claude Decaen was purchased in 1927 by the Archbishop, Cardinal Dubois, and his auxiliary Mgr Crépin. The Église du Saint-Esprit was built between 1928 and 1935. The crypt was inaugurated in 1929 and served as a chapel while the upper part of the church was being built. The work progressed slowly due to lack of funding. When Cardinal Dubois died in 1929, he was replaced by Bishop Verdier, who resumed construction in 1932. His bust is above the main door.
