Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu
Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu is a municipality in the southwestern part of Quebec, Canada on the Richelieu River in the La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality, Regional County Municipality of La Vallée-du-Richelieu. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 2,285. History In 1694, Louis XIV of France, King Louis XIV granted the Seigneurial system of New France, Seigneurie of Saint-Denis to the Aristocracy (class), aristocrat French Army officer, Louis-François De Gannes, sieur de Falaise of Buxeuil, Vienne, Buxeuil, Vienne, France. He named his seigniory after his wife, Barbe Denys. A great stone Roman Catholic Saint-Denis Church was completed in 1796. On November 23, 1837, Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu was the site of the murder of Great Britain, British courier, Lieutenant George Weir by Patriote movement, Patriotes. Borduas (provincial Electoral District)
Borduas is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipality of Beloeil, Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Otterburn Park. It was created for the 1994 election from Verchères and Iberville. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Saint-Charles-sur-Richelieu, Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu, Sainte-Madeleine, Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu, and Sainte-Marie-Madeleine from the Verchères electoral district.
