Saint-Charles-Borromée
Saint-Charles-Borromée, Quebec ( 2021 Population 15,285) is a city in southwest-central Quebec, Canada, on the l'Assomption River. In Joliette Regional County Municipality, Saint-Charles-Borromée has the Maison Antoine-Lacombe, a heritage home that hosts many exhibits throughout the year. The town is also home to the Centre Saint-Jean-Bosco, which annually hosts the Mémoires et Racines Festival of folk music from various countries and Quebec. The town takes its name from its original Roman Catholic parish, Saint-Charles-Borromée, which was canonically established in 1683. The parish, in turn, is named after the French form of the name of an Italian Roman Catholic prelate, Charles Borromeo (1538–1584). He was the archbishop of Milan, founded a Roman Catholic order, the Oblates, and became a canonised saint in the Roman Catholic calendar. Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Joliette Regional County Municipality. History In 1803, the geographic township of Kildare was proclaimed, named after Kildare, Ireland. At the time, the land was granted as title deeds or as payment for professional services. For example, the Lord of Lavaltrie entrusted the central portion to Mr. Vondevelden to pay for his surveying fees. As for the northern portion, Major Beauchamp Colclough, Crown Commissioner and Land Agent, granted land to English soldiers in 1822. He intended to establish the Town of Kildare, but his dismissal delayed the development of the place. The first inhabitants came from Saint-Paul, Saint-Elizabeth, Lanoraie, and Berthier. Joliette (provincial Electoral District)
Joliette is a provincial electoral district in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the cities of Joliette and Saint-Charles-Borromée. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 election and its successor electoral district was Joliette-Montcalm. Saint-Paul is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Joliette Regional County Municipality. History Saint-Paul was born in the northeast of the former Lordship of Lavaltrie. The first settlers, mainly from Saint-Pierre-du-Portage (L’Assomption) and Saint-Sulpice, cleared the territory gradually. The Assomption River (in French ''Rivière l'Assomption'', named after the Assumption of Mary) is the most important waterway in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. It is over long, and has a drainage basin (watershed) of . Its source is the Mont Tremblant massif.
