Sailing At The 2015 Pan American Games
Sailing competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto will be held from July 12 to 19 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club's ferry station and parking lot on the mainland side of the harbour. A total of ten events will be contested (two for men, three for women and five mixed gender events). Originally nine medal events were scheduled to be contested at the games, but a tenth medal event (the women's 49erFX) was added to the program. This was done to get the event to have more gender equality. The top placing athlete from North America and South America in the men's laser and women's laser radial, will all qualify for the sailing competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) is a private yacht club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1852, it is one of the world's older and larger yacht clubs. Its summer home is on a trio of islands (RCYC Island, South Island and North Chippewa or Snug Island) in the Toronto Islands. Its winter home since 1984 has been a purpose-built clubhouse located at 141 St. George Street in Toronto (just north of Bloor Street), which includes facilities for sports and social activities. In 2014, the club had approximately 4700 members, about 450 yachts (95% sail) and a number of dinghies, principally International 14s. Sailing At The 2015 Pan American Games – Snipe
The Snipe competition of the sailing events at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto was held from July 12 to July 19 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.http://results.toronto2015.org/IRS/en/sailing/event-overview-open-snipe.htm Points were assigned based on the finishing position in each race (1 for first, 2 for second, etc.). The points were totaled from the top 11 results of the first 12 races, with lower totals being better. If a team was disqualified or did not complete the race, 11 points were assigned for that race (as there were 10 teams in this competition). The top 5 teams at that point competed in the final race, with placings counting double for final score. The team with the lowest total score won. Demita Vega de Lille (born 21 July 1983 in Mérida, Yucatán) is a Mexican windsurfer, who specialized in Neil Pryde RS:X class. She represented her nation Mexico at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and later picked up a silver medal in windsurfing at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara. As of September 2014, Vega is ranked seventh in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation, following her successes at the North American and ISAF World Championships. Lee Parkhill (born November 22, 1988) in Oakville, Ontario is a Canadians, Canadian sailor in the Laser (dinghy), Laser class. His highest ranking is 11th in July 2014. Career By 2007, he started sailing full rig Lasers, placing 4th in the Laser (dinghy), Laser North American Championships in June 2007, 2nd at the Laser US Championships in August 2008, and finally winning the annual CORK regatta in August 2008. Robert Scheidt
Robert Scheidt (born April 15, 1973) is a Brazilian sailor who has won two gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze from five Olympic Games and a Star Sailors League Final. He is one of the most successful sailors at Olympic Games and one of the most successful Brazilian Olympic athletes, being one of only two to earn five medals along with fellow sailor Torben Grael, and the only Brazilian sailor to win medals in both dinghy and keelboat classes. David Mauricio Mier y Terán Cuevas (born 7 August 1978) is a windsurfer from Mexico. Mier was born in Mérida, Yucatán. He began practicing windsurfing at the age of 14, and participated in his first competition at age 15.
