The Men's Finn was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2004 Summer Olympics program in Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre. Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre
The Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre hosted the sailing events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece Athens ( ; el, Αθήνα, Athína ; grc, Ἀθῆναι, Athênai (pl.) ) is both the capital and largest city of Greece. With a population close to four million, it is also the seventh largest city in the European Union. Athens dominates .... The center is located about four miles from downtown Athens along the coast. It was officially opened on August 2, 2004, a few weeks before the Olympics, though test events were conducted at the site in August 2002 and 2003. The center had a capacity of 1,600 for the medal ceremonies. After the Olympics, the site was turned over to the private sector (Seirios AE), and will become a marina with a 1,000+ yacht capacity, as part of Athens' revitalized waterfront. Dean Barker (born 8 April 1973) is a New Zealand yachtsman. He is best known internationally for his participation in America's Cup yacht races. Early life and family Barker was born in 1973 in Takapuna, New Zealand. Barker's father is the New Zealander Ray Barker of the Barkers Clothing retail chain. Dean Barker was educated at Westlake Boys High School. Barker married former New Zealand field hockey representative Mandy Smith in February 2004. Imre Taveter
Imre Taveter (born 21 April 1967, in Keila) is a retired Estonian sailor who specialized in the Finn class. He started sailing in the Optimist class in 1976 at Kalev Yacht Club, in the Pirita district of Tallinn. Taveter won U18 Youth Championships titles of Soviet Union in the Finn class in 1984 and in 1985. He won the European U21 Junior Championships title in the Finn class (Çeşme, Turkey) in 1987. Taveter has won 9 Estonian Championships titles in the Finn class (1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003). He ended his career as a full time athlete in 1996. Since then he continued to practice sailing sport as an amateur. He has been selected to compete for Estonia in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004), and has trained on years 1999-2004 at Pärnu Yacht Club. Gašper Vinčec
Gašper Vinčec (born 5 April 1981) is a Slovenian former sailor, who specialized in the Finn class. He represented his country Slovenia in two editions of the Summer Olympic Games (2004 and 2008) and came closest to the medal haul in the final race of his signature fleet, finishing in seventh place. Outside his Olympic career, Vinčec picked up a bronze at the 2007 ISAF Worlds in Cascais, Portugal, becoming the first Slovenian sailor to ascend the podium since the breakup of SFR Yugoslavia. A member of the country's Finn yacht club ( sl, JD Finn Slovenija), Vinčec trained most of his competitive sporting career under the tutelage of his personal coach Roman Teply.
