Sailaab (1956 Film)
''Sailaab'' is a 1956 Hindi movie which tells the story of Gautam, a rich young man, who goes to Assam to visit his father's tea plantation. The plane in which he is travelling is forced to make an emergency landing due to bad weather. Gautam gets hurt and suffers from amnesia. He falls in love with a young woman Kanchan, who responds to him even though she is part of a religious community that doesn't allow its members to marry. The film was directed by Guru Dutt and produced by Guru Dutt's wife, Geeta Dutt's brother, ''Mukul Roy''. It stars Geeta Bali, as Kanchan and Abhi Bhattacharya as Gautam. Smriti Biswas, Bipin Gupta and Helen. Baburao Patel, the most significant film critic of the time, noted, "Boring, stupid and incoherent – that is ''Sailaab'' in three words. Baburao Patel
Baburao Patel (1904–1982) was an Indian publisher and writer, associated with films and politics. Career He was the editor and publisher of India's first film trade magazine, ''Filmindia'', the first edition of which was published in 1935. Baburao was also the founder and editor of a political magazine, ''Mother India'' (different from the magazine of the same name started by the Aurobindo group). Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (16 June 1920 – 26 September 1989), known professionally as Hemant Kumar and Hemanta Mukherjee, was a legendary Indian music composer and playback singer who primarily sang in Bengali and Hindi, as well as other Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Tamil, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Sanskrit and Urdu. Geeta Bali (born Harkirtan Kaur; 1930 ‒ 21 January 1965) was an Indian actress who appeared in Hindi language films. She was the wife of noted film actor Shammi Kapoor. Early life Geeta Bali was born as Harikirtan Kaur in Amritsar in the Punjab Province of British India in 1930. She had an elder sister Haridarshan Kaur, whose daughter is actress Yogeeta Bali. Career Geeta Baali started her film career as a child actress, at the age of 12, with the film ''The Cobbler''. She made her debut as a heroine in ''Badnaami'' (1946). Bipin Gupta (21 August 1905 – 9 September 1981) was an Indian actor and artist during the 1930s and 1960s. He acted in Bengali and Hindi cinema, most notably in ''Baiju Bawra'' (1952), ''Jagriti'' (1954), ''Gharana'' (1961) and '' Khilona'' (1970). Early life Gupta was born to a Bengali family on 21 August 1905 in Meerut, the 5th child of his parents Trailokya Nath Gupta and Khemankari Devi. They later moved to Barrackpore.
