Sager Strong Award
The Sager Strong Award is an annual award given by the National Basketball Association. It is presented to "an individual who has been a trailblazer while exemplifying courage, faith, compassion, and grace." Robin Roberts (newscaster)
Robin Roberts (born November 23, 1960) is an American television broadcaster. Roberts is the anchor of ABC's ''Good Morning America''. Roberts was the first woman of color and first openly LGBT woman to host the American TV game show ''Jeopardy!'' After growing up in Mississippi and attending Southeastern Louisiana University, Roberts was a sports anchor for local TV and radio stations. Roberts was a sportscaster on ESPN for 15 years (1990–2005). She became co-anchor on ''Good Morning America'' in 2005. Roberts was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. Her treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome was chronicled on the program, which earned a 2012 Peabody Award for the coverage. NBA Awards
The NBA Awards was an annual awards show presented by the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2017 to 2019, created in partnership with Turner Sports and produced by Dick Clark Productions to honor and recognize the league's top performers and accomplishments. Finalists for each individual award were announced during the NBA playoffs on ''NBA on TNT'' telecasts. Winners were revealed during the ceremony. Additionally, the open public could decide the winner for fan-voted categories online by voting through the league's official website and on social media. The ceremony occurred in late June, following the conclusion of the NBA Finals, and were broadcast live on TNT. Hosting duties were shared with the ''Inside the NBA'' studio team. Craig Sager
Craig Graham Sager (June 29, 1951 – December 15, 2016) was an American sports reporter who covered an array of sports for CNN and its sister stations TBS and TNT, from 1981 until the year he died. Sager worked as a sideline reporter pacing the floors of the National Basketball Association, as he invariably sported one of his vast collection of garishly eccentric jackets and suits. He was a 2016 inductee of the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Jimmy V Award
The Jimmy V Award (sometimes called the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance) is awarded as part of the ESPY Awards to "a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination". The award is named in honor of North Carolina State University men's basketball coach Jim Valvano, who gave an acceptance speech after receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 1993 ESPY Awards ceremony which "brought a howling, teary-eyed Madison Square Garden to its feet". Valvano died from adenocarcinoma two months after receiving the award.
