Saeed Ahmad Akhtar
Saeed Ahmad Akhtar was an Urdu poet, playwright and educationist. He published his first Urdu poetry collection ''Diyaar e Shab'' in 1976. The book got several awards including the Abbasin Arts Council Award for the best book of the year. He published 12 Urdu poetry collections and one English poetry collection so far. He also wrote many plays and documentaries for Pakistan television and Radio Pakistan. He was born on 3 March 1933 in Pishin, Pakistan. He completed his masters in English Literature from Peshawar University in 1958 and then masters in Urdu Literature from the same university in 1965. After working as a lecturer and professor of English in the provincial Education Department since 1954, he joined the West Pakistan Civil Service in 1968 as Assistant Political Officer. He served in many Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Additional Commissioner for 22 years, he retired in 1990. Urdu Poetry
Urdu poetry ( ur, ) is a tradition of poetry and has many different forms. Today, it is an important part of the cultures of South Asia. According to Naseer Turabi there are five major poets of Urdu which are Mir Taqi Mir (d.1810), Mirza Ghalib, Mir Anees, Allama Iqbal and Josh Malihabadi (d.1982). The language of Urdu reached its pinnacle under the British Raj, and it received official status. All famous writers of Urdu language including Ghalib and Iqbal were given British scholarships. Following the Partition of India in 1947, it found major poets and scholars were divided along the nationalistic lines. However, Urdu poetry is cherished in both the nations. Gomal University (Urdu: جامعہ گومل), is a Public university, public research university located in Dera Ismail Khan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Dera Ismail Khan (; bal, , Urdu and skr, , ps, ډېره اسماعيل خان), abbreviated as D.I. Khan, is a city and capital of Dera Ismail Khan District, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is the 37th largest city of Pakistan and fifth largest in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by population. Dera Ismail Khan is situated on the west bank of the Indus River, at its junction with the Gomal River. It is south of the provincial capital Peshawar, and northwest of Multan, Punjab. Etymology In the local language, the word ''ḍerā'' means "tent, encampment", and is commonly found in the name of towns in the Indus Valley such as Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Bugti.
