Sadowara Castle
is the earthly remains of a castle structure in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. It was the home castle of the Ito clan and later was controlled by the Shimazu clan. Shimazu Toyohisa was command of the castle. Current The castle is now only ruins, with some moats, Low stone wall and earthworks. Sadohara Castle historical museum is on site. The castle was listed as one of the Continued Top 100 Japanese Castles in 2017. Miyazaki Prefecture
is a prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyūshū. Miyazaki Prefecture has a population of 1,073,054 (1 June 2019) and has a geographic area of 7,735 km2 (2,986 sq mi). Miyazaki Prefecture borders Ōita Prefecture to the north, Kumamoto Prefecture to the northwest, and Kagoshima Prefecture to the southwest. Japanese Castle
are fortresses constructed primarily of wood and stone. They evolved from the wooden stockades of earlier centuries, and came into their best-known form in the 16th century. Castles in Japan were built to guard important or strategic sites, such as ports, river crossings, or crossroads, and almost always incorporated the landscape into their defenses. Though they were built to last and used more stone in their construction than most Japanese buildings, castles were still constructed primarily of wood, and many were destroyed over the years. This was especially true during the Sengoku period (1467–1603), when many of these castles were first built. However, many were rebuilt, either later in the Sengoku period, in the Edo period (1603–1867) that followed, or more recently, as national heritage sites or museums. Shimazu Clan
The were the ''daimyō'' of the Satsuma han, which spread over Satsuma, Ōsumi and Hyūga provinces in Japan. Shimazu Iehisa
was a Japanese samurai of the Sengoku period, who was a member of the Shimazu clan of Satsuma Province. He was the fourth son of Shimazu Takahisa. He served in a command capacity during his family's campaign to conquer Kyūshū. His sons were Shimazu Toyohisa, Shimazu Tadanao, and Shimazu Mitsuhisa. He was nephew of 'Ten'ei-in' (wife of Tokugawa Ienobu) from his mother side and later he married Kamehime and daughter of Shimazu Yoshitaka, Mitsuhime. He participated in the Battle of Mimigawa (1578), Siege of Minamata Castle (1582), Battle of Okitanawate (1584), and in 1587 he fought against Toyotomi Hideyoshi forces at Battle of Hetsugigawa and Battle of Takajo. Shimazu Toyohisa
or Shimazu Tadatoyo, son of Shimazu Iehisa and nephew of Shimazu Yoshihiro, was a Japanese ''samurai'' who was a member of the Shimazu clan. He was also the castle lord in command of Sadowara Castle. He served in the Battle of Kyushu (1587) under his uncle against the Toyotomi. He fought bravely, but was ambushed off route when he charged forward. He was saved by his uncle. His wife was the daughter of Shimazu Tadanaga, cousin and ''karō'' to Shimazu Yoshihisa. Early life Shimazu Toyohisa was born in 1570 as Shimazu Iehisa's child. Houjumaru was his childhood name, and he was originally called Shimazu Tadatoyo before changing his name to Toyohisa. Battle Of Mimigawa
The Battle of Mimigawa was a battle, fought in Japan, between the Ōtomo clan and the Shimazu clan in 1578. The Ōtomo force was led by Sorin's brother-in-law Tawara Chikataka, while the Shimazu clan was led by Shimazu Yoshihisa. Prelude In May 1578 The Shimazu had been advancing north from their Satsuma Province, when Ōtomo Sōrin (retired ''daimyō'') and his heir Yoshimune, moved south to confront them. The Christian Ōtomo army destroyed Buddhist and Shinto religious buildings along the way. Later, The Ōtomo crossed the Mimigawa and laid siege to Takajo Castle on 20 October, The Takajo garrison only have 500 men led by Yamada Arinobu. The Ōtomo set up their Portuguese cannon, ''kunikuzuri'' or "destroyer of provinces", across the Kiribaragawa.
