Sadiq Hussain Qureshi
Nawab Sadiq Hussain Qureshi ( ur, ; 25 July 1927 – 24 June 2000) was a Pakistani politician who served as both Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the 1970s. A close aid of Mr. Bhutto during his time in power, he retired from all active politics after the military coup of 1977 that ousted Bhutto's government. He was born in the Indian hill station town of Shimla, although his family is native to Multan. Educated at Aitchison College, Lahore, he was forced into responsibility at a young age after his father was killed during the partition. At the time Sadiq Hussain Qureshi was only 20 years old. He turned his attention to politics in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Governor of Punjab is the appointed head of state of the provincial government in Punjab, Pakistan. Although the Governor is the head of the province on paper, it is largely a ceremonial position; and the main powers lie with the Chief Minister Punjab and Chief Secretary Punjab. However, throughout the history of Pakistan, the powers of the provincial governors were vastly increased, when the provincial assemblies were dissolved and the administrative role came under direct control of the governors, as in the cases of martial laws of 1958–1972 and 1977–1985, and governor rules of 1999–2002. A Member of the Provincial Assembly, or MPA is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district to the legislature or legislative assembly of a subnational jurisdiction.
