William Berke
William A. Berke (born October 3, 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – died February 15, 1958 in Los Angeles, California) was an American film director, producer, actor and screenwriter. He wrote, directed, and/or produced some 200 films over a three-decade career. Biography Berke broke into motion pictures in 1922 as a writer for silent westerns. For these assignments he used the pseudonym "William Lester." In the early 1930s he formed a partnership with independent producer Bernard B. Ray to make feature films at Ray's Reliable Pictures studio, next door to the Columbia Pictures studio. Berke, now using his own name for screen credits, was equally capable making comedies, mysteries, action adventures, and westerns. In 1942 he joined Columbia, at first directing that studio's Charles Starrett and Russell Hayden westerns, and then branching out into more mainstream fare. The Texas Playboys
James Robert Wills (March 6, 1905 – May 13, 1975) was an American Western swing musician, songwriter, and bandleader. Considered by music authorities as the founder of Western swing, he was known widely as the King of Western Swing (although Spade Cooley self-promoted the moniker "King of Western Swing" from 1942 to 1969). Wills formed several bands and played radio stations around the South and West until he formed the Texas Playboys in 1934 with Wills on fiddle, Tommy Duncan on piano and vocals, rhythm guitarist June Whalin, tenor banjoist Johnnie Lee Wills, and Kermit Whalin who played steel guitar and bass. Oklahoma guitar player Eldon Shamblin joined the band in 1937 bringing jazzy influence and arrangements. John Samuel Ingram (November 15, 1902 – February 20, 1969) was an American film and television actor. He appeared in many serials and Westerns between 1935 and 1966. Biography Ingram served in the U.S. Army in France. After leaving the military, he gave up plans to study law and instead joined a traveling minstrel show. He acted in stock theater with several companies before going into film. Ingram first appeared on screen in a bit part in ''Westward Ho'' (1935). His first film credit came in the serial ''Zorro Rides Again'' (1937). In addition to acting, Ingram was a stunt man, working with horses and cars in films in the early 1930s. He was born in Frankfort, Illinois, and died in Canoga Park, California, of a heart attack. He was interred in the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, California. Edmund Fessenden Cobb (June 23, 1892 – August 15, 1974) was an American actor who appeared in more than 620 films between 1912 and 1966. Biography Cobb was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of William Henry Cobb and Eddie (Edmundie) Ross. His maternal grandfather, Edmund G. Ross, was a newspaper editor, a governor of the New Mexico territory, a senator from Kansas, and a leader in the abolitionist movement in the United States. Despite his grandfather's efforts to lead Cobb into a career in politics, an initial effort in acting in a locally produced play turned him in that direction for a career. When he was 18, he worked for the St. Louis Motion Picture Company when it made a film in Albuquerque. Other roles with other companies followed. Wheeler Oakman (born Vivian Eichelberger; February 21, 1890 – March 19, 1949) was an American film actor. Early years Oakman was born as Vivian Eichelberger in Washington, D.C., and educated in that city's schools. He grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, after moving there from Washington. Career Before acting in films, Oakman was active in stock theater in the eastern United States. Oakman appeared in over 280 films between 1912 and 1948. In silent films, he was often a leading man. Among his leading ladies were Priscilla Dean, Kathlyn Williams, Colleen Moore and Annette Kellerman. William Wright (January 5, 1911 – January 19, 1949) was an American actor. He was a leading man in films who was most popular in the 1940s when he was typically compared to Clark Gable, whose career was temporarily derailed by World War II. Wright even played Gable's part in a 1945 musical comedy remake of ''It Happened One Night'' entitled ''Eve Knew Her Apples''. He also played Philo Vance in ''Philo Vance Returns'' (1947) and the title role in ''King of the Gamblers'' (1948).
