Sadao Nakajima
is a Japanese film director and screenwriter (born 8 August, 1934) known for his work in yakuza films and jidaigeki. Career Born in Chiba Prefecture, he attended Hibiya High School and then the University of Tokyo before joining the Tōei studio in 1959. Working at Tōei's Kyoto studio, he served as an assistant director under such directors as Masahiro Makino, Tadashi Imai, and Tomotaka Tasaka. He made his directorial debut in 1964 Kunoichi ninpō and won the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award in 1966 for '' Yakuza (893) gurentai'', the first gendaigeki shot at Tōei's Kyoto studio. He directed such popular film series as ''Kogarashi Monjirō'' and ''Nihon no don'', and also worked on television. His 1985 film '' Seburi monogatari'' was entered into the 35th Berlin International Film Festival. From 1987 to 2008 he served as a professor of the Osaka University of Arts. Shogun's Shadow
is a 1989 Japanese film directed by Yasuo Furuhata. Plot Takechiyo, the eldest son of shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu, is threatened by attacks from assassins. The attempts on his life are the result of a conflict for the succession for the shogunate. Under the law, Takechiyo is the rightful heir, but he is hated by Iemitsu, who is dying of a fatal disease and has gone insane. Abe Shigetsugu, Iemitsu's prime minister, is responsible for sending the assassins in his lord's name to have Takechiyo replaced in favor of his younger brother Tokugawa Tokumatsu. Takeda Shingen (1988 TV Mini-series)
was daimyo of Kai Province during the Sengoku period of Japan. Known as the "Tiger of Kai", he was one of the most powerful daimyo with exceptional military prestige in the late stage of the Sengoku period. Shigen was a warlord of great skill and military leadership. Name Shingen was called "Tarō" (a commonly used pet name for the eldest son of a Japanese family) or Katsuchiyo (勝千代) during his childhood. After his ''genpuku'' (coming of age ceremony), he was given the formal name Harunobu (晴信), which included a character from the name of Ashikaga Yoshiharu, the 12th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate. It was a common practice in feudal Japan for a higher-ranked samurai to bestow a character from his own name to his inferiors as a symbol of recognition. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 (colloquially known as the ''Appassionata'', meaning "passionate" in Italian) is among the three famous piano sonatas of his middle period (the others being the ''Waldstein'', Op. 53 and ''Les Adieux'', Op. 81a); it was composed during 1804 and 1805, and perhaps 1806, and was dedicated to Count Franz von Brunswick. The first edition was published in February 1807 in Vienna. Unlike the early Sonata No. 8, ''Pathétique'', the ''Appassionata'' was not named during the composer's lifetime, but was so labelled in 1838 by the publisher of a four-hand arrangement of the work. was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. His son is a fellow film director . Career Born in Tokyo, Satō graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1956 with a degree in French literature. He joined the Toei studio and worked as an assistant to such directors as Tadashi Imai and Miyoji Ieki. He debuted as a director in 1963 with Rikugun Zangyaku Monogatari, for which he won a best newcomer's award at the Blue Ribbon Awards. Kinji Fukasaku
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Known for his "broad range and innovative filmmaking," Fukasaku worked in many different genres and styles, but was best known for his gritty yakuza films, typified by the ''Battles Without Honor and Humanity'' series (1973–1976). According to the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, "his turbulent energy and at times extreme violence express a cynical critique of social conditions and genuine sympathy for those left out of Japan's postwar prosperity."
