Sacred And Profane Love (1921 Film)
''Sacred and Profane Love'' is a 1921 American silent drama film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. This film was directed by William Desmond Taylor and starred Elsie Ferguson with Conrad Nagel. It is based on a book ''The Book of Carlotta'' by Arnold Bennett and was turned into a 1920 Broadway play which also starred ''Elsie Ferguson''. Writer/director Julia Crawford Ivers adapted the book and play to the screen while her son James Van Trees served as one of the film's cinematographers. All known copies of this film are lost. Plot As described in a film publication summary, Carlotta Peel (Ferguson), brought up by a maiden aunt with maiden ideas, secretly attends a concert by Emilie Diaz (Nagel). After the concert she meets the pianist and later succumbs to the strains of "Samson and Delilah" played by Emilie. William Desmond Taylor (born William Cunningham Deane-Tanner, 26 April 1872 – 1 February 1922) was an Anglo-Irish-American film director and actor. Jane Keckley (September 10, 1876 – August 14, 1963) was an American actress of the silent and sound film eras. Biography Keckley was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and went to school there and in Georgia. Before she acted in films, Keckley performed in stock theater and in vaudeville. Keckley began her film career in one- and two-reel Westerns in 1911. Her first feature film was 1915's ''The Circular Staircase'' (under the name Jane Watson). In her twenty-five year career, she would appear in over 90 films, as well as dozens of shorts. She would appear as a supporting actress in such films as: William Desmond Taylor's ''Huck and Tom'' (1918); the 1936 version of ''Show Boat'', starring Irene Dunne and Allan Jones; and '' Magnificent Obsession'' (1935), starring Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor. Winifred Greenwood
Winifred Greenwood (January 1, 1885 – November 23, 1961) was an American silent film actress. Born in 1885 in Geneseo, New York, Greenwood studied to be a teacher but left New York Normal School to perform in vaudeville in the United States and Canada. Greenwood's career began in vaudeville, performing with the Kings Carnival Company in Canada and the United States. She went on to act with stock theater companies, one of which she headed. She was signed in 1910 and starred in over 200 films before her retirement in 1927. She starred in a number of films with Charlotte Burton including ''The Shriner's Daughter'' in 1913. She was married to actor George Field from 1913 to 1918. She died in 1961, age 76 in Woodland Hills, California.
