Sacred Heart Medical Center Heliport
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District is a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Originally called Sacred Heart Medical Center, its new name reflects its location near the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian University. It is one of two Sacred Heart facilities in the Eugene-Springfield area owned by PeaceHealth. The other facility, Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, is in Springfield. Sacred Heart in Eugene had been the largest hospital in the area until the newer facility at RiverBend opened in August 2008. Most general services moved to the larger hospital. This facility became a specialty services hospital but retains an emergency department. PeaceHealth is a not-for-profit health care system that owns and operates ten hospitals, and numerous clinics, in the Western United States. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, the organization has operations in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington, and was founded by the Catholic Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 1976. History In 1890, nuns of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace moved to Fairhaven, Washington, from the convent in Newark, New Jersey, to establish a hospital for loggers. The order continued to build hospitals and in 1936 opened their first one in Oregon, Pacific Christian Hospital in Eugene. After continued growth, the Sisters formed a non-profit health care system in 1976, and in 1994 the name was changed to PeaceHealth. Bushnell University is a Private university, private Christianity, Christian university in Eugene, Oregon. It is historically affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Christian churches and churches of Christ. The institution was renamed from Northwest Christian University in 2020. History The school was founded as a divinity school in 1895 by Disciple of Christ preacher and educator Eugene Claremont Sanderson as the Eugene Divinity School (EDS).
