Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore
Sacred Heart Cathedral ( ur, ) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore, located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Built at the behest of bishop Godefroid Pelckmans (Bishop of Lahore, 1893-1904) with Belgian aid and materials, the cathedral was consecrated by Bishop Fabian Eestermans, the Bishop of Lahore, on 19 November 1907. Its roots lie in the historical presence of the Belgian Capuchins in Pakistan. The design of this Cathedral was made according to the Roman Byzantine-style by Belgian architect, Edouard Dobbeleers of Antwerp. The Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, aka Lahore Cathedral, is a United Protestant cathedral in the heart of Lahore, Pakistan. It was built on The Mall in 1887, opposite the Lahore High Court. The cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Lahore, of the Church of Pakistan. The building is in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture and was completed in 1887; and was consecrated on 25 January 1887. The cathedral was originally built out of pink sandstone by architect John Oldrid Scott (son of George Gilbert Scott). In 1898, two towers with tall steeples were added to the building, but the steeples were taken down after the earthquake of 1911. Sacred Heart Convent School, or SHCS, is a private Catholic primary and secondary school for girls located in Lahore, Pakistan. It was established in 1908. History At the end of the 19th century, the Great Famine plagued the subcontinent. In 1897, the Roman Catholic hierarchy decided to send a group of nuns to care for the children who had been traumatised, abandoned and orphaned by the Famine. By 1906, the Great Famine ended and the number of children decreased, so the dome rooms which once composed the orphanage were left empty. At that time, financial support from abroad was withdrawn and making ends meet became difficult. The unoccupied rooms were transformed into Sacred Heart School. The Apostolic Nunciature to Pakistan is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Pakistan. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. Adolfo Tito Camacho Yllana (born 6 February 1948) is a Philippine prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He has been an archbishop and apostolic nuncio since 2001, the Apostolic Nuncio to Israel as well as Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine since June 2021.
