Sacramento Geckos
The Sacramento Geckos were an American soccer club that competed in the United Soccer Leagues from 1997 to 1999. The club was founded as the Albuquerque Geckos in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1997, before being sold and moved to Sacramento, California for the 1999 season. The Geckos had great success in their debut, winning the USL D-3 Pro League championship in 1997 before moving up to the tier 2 A-League in 1998. The team suffered a miserable season where they won only five games. The move to California didn't produce success, as the Geckos failed to win a game or survive the season, with the USL stepping in to buy the team, renaming them Team Sacramento before folding at the end of the 1999 campaign. New Mexico Chiles
The New Mexico Chiles were an American soccer club established in 1990 which competed in the American Professional Soccer League. In 1991, the team merged with the New Mexico Roadrunners and moved to the USISL until its disestablishment in 1996. History In 1986, the semi-professional Albuquerque Outlaws entered the newly established Southwest Indoor Soccer League. In 1987, the team became the Albuquerque Gunners. In 1989, the SISL and Gunners began playing both a summer outdoor as well as a winter indoor season. The team was renamed the New Mexico Roadrunners for the 1990/91 indoor season. In 1990, the New Mexico Chiles were established as an expansion franchise in the American Professional Soccer League. Following the season, the ownership dissolved. Players and organizers then merged with the New Mexico Roadrunners. The new team took on the Chiles name and logo and competed in the USISL until it folded in 1996. Sacramento Gold is an American soccer team based in Sacramento, California, United States. Founded in 2009, the team plays in National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the West Region, Golden Gate Conference. The team plays its home games in the stadium at Capital Christian School, where they have played since 2017. Previously, they played in the stadium at River City High School. The team's colors are burgundy, navy blue, and white. The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States. Sometimes called the American soccer pyramid, teams and leagues are not linked by the system of promotion and relegation typical in soccer elsewhere.
