Sackville Carden
Admiral Sir Sackville Hamilton Carden (3 May 1857 – 6 May 1930) was a senior Royal Navy officer of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In cooperation with the French Navy, he commanded British naval forces in the Mediterranean Sea during the First World War. Early life Carden was born in Barnane near Templemore in County Tipperary, Ireland, the third son of Andrew Carden and Anne Berkeley. Although both his father and grandfather had served in the British Army, he elected for a naval career and joined the Royal Navy in 1870. Military career Carden's early career was marked by service in Egypt and the Sudan and later, under Harry Rawson, in the Benin Expedition of 1897. He was promoted to captain in December 1899, and in May 1901 was commissioned in command of , seagoing tender to the ''Wildfire'', flagship at Sheerness. Sackville Hamilton PC (Ire) (14 March 1732 – 29 January 1818) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Early life Hamilton was born on 14 March 1732. He was the third son, of seven children born to Mary Dawson (daughter of Joshua Dawson) and Hon. Henry Hamilton, MP and Collector of the Port of Cork. His younger brother was Henry Hamilton, who served as royal Governor of Bermuda and Dominica. His uncles were Frederick Hamilton and Gustavus Hamilton. His grandfather was Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne, his great-grandfather was Sir Frederick Hamilton, and his great-great grandfather was Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley. Sackville George Lane-Fox, 12th Baron Conyers and ''de jure'' 15th Baron Darcy de Knayth (14 September 1827 – 24 August 1888) was a British peer and soldier. Early life Lane-Fox was the eldest son of Lady Charlotte Osborne (d. 1836) and Sackville Lane-Fox (1797–1874), a British Conservative Party politician. Sackville George Pelham, 5th Earl of Yarborough, MC (17 December 1888 – 7 February 1948), styled Lord Worsley from 1914 to 1926 and known as The Lord Conyers from 1926 until his accession to the earldom in 1936, was a British peer and soldier. Pelham was the second son of Charles Pelham, 4th Earl of Yarborough and his wife, Marcia. In 1910, he became a Second Lieutenant in the 11th Hussars and initially fought as a lieutenant in France during World War I before being promoted to the rank of captain in 1916. During the war, his elder brother, Charles was killed in action and Sackville assumed the former's courtesy title of Lord Worsley. Background and education Born Sackville Stopford, Stopford-Sackville was the eldest son of William Stopford-Sackville, son of Reverend the Hon. Sir Sackville Trevor (c. 1565–1633) was a Welsh sea captain and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1625. Sackville Trevor was son of John Trevor of Trevalyn, Denbighshire, and the brother of Sir Richard Trevor, Sir John Trevor and Sir Thomas Trevor.
