Sabarmati Junction Railway Station
Sabarmati Junction railway station is a junction station of the Indian Western Railway zone, Western Railway in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The station is from the main Ahmedabad Junction railway station on the Ahmedabad–Delhi main line, at Dharamnagar near the Sabarmati Ashram. Sabarmati Junction has 2 tracks, the Mehsana line, and the Botad line, in addition to the main broad-gauge line for trains departing from Ahmedabad. The station has a dedicated rail yard for passenger trains, and was proposed in 2010 for development as an additional terminal for Delhi-bound trains. Parts of station It is divided in two parts Sabarmati Junction (SBT) and Sabarmati Junction BG (SBIB). Sabarmati SBT lies on Ahmedabad–Viramgam-Gandhidham main line which contains three platforms. Diesel Loco Shed, Sabarmati
Diesel Loco Shed, Sabarmati is an locomotive maintenance shed located in Sabarmati, Gujarat in India. It is located east of Sabarmati falling under Ahmedabad railway division. The shed caters to the needs of freight as well as passenger trains. It is one of three diesel loco sheds in the Western Railway zone, the others are Ratlam and Vatva . One of the last remaining major MG loco sheds. History It was established on 8 July 1978 with a holding capacity of 55 YDM-3 and YDM-5 locomotives, but 50 WDG4 where added to the Loco Shed in 2008 and it was fully operational in 2009. The first EMD loco no. 12224 WDG4 arrived at Sabarmati shed in July 2009. All locos received by the shed are from Banaras Locomotive Works, Varanasi, India. Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) or Mumbai–Ahmedabad HSR is an under-construction high-speed rail line connecting India's economic hub Mumbai with the city of Ahmedabad. When completed, it will be India's first high-speed rail line. Construction was expected to begin by April 2020, and the project was expected to be completed by December 2023. Salt March
The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, Dandi March and the Dandi Satyagraha, was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Mahatma Gandhi. The twenty-four day march lasted from 12 March to 6 April 1930 as a direct action campaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly. Another reason for this march was that the Civil Disobedience Movement needed a strong inauguration that would inspire more people to follow Gandhi's example.
