Sabam Siagian
Sabam Pandapotan Siagian (4 May 1932 – 3 June 2016) was an Indonesian journalist. He served as the first editor in chief of ''The Jakarta Post''. Siagian departed the ''Jakarta Post'' in 1991 upon his appointment as Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia. From 1991 to 1995, while ambassador, Sabam lived in Canberra. He criticised the Australian media for lagging behind other sectors in Australia when it came to engaging with Indonesia. After leaving Canberra in 1995, Sabam joined the board of ''Jakarta Post''. Sabam died in Jakarta on 3 June 2016 after extended health complications. Batavia, Dutch East Indies
Batavia was the capital of the Dutch East Indies. The area corresponds to present-day Jakarta, Indonesia. Batavia can refer to the city proper or its suburbs and hinterland, the Ommelanden, which included the much-larger area of the Residency of Batavia in the present-day Indonesian provinces of Jakarta, Banten and West Java. The founding of Batavia by the Dutch in 1619, on the site of the ruins of Jayakarta, led to the establishment of a Dutch colony; Batavia became the center of the Dutch East India Company's trading network in Asia. Monopolies on local produce were augmented by non-indigenous cash crops. To safeguard their commercial interests, the company and the colonial administration absorbed surrounding territory. Wiryono Sastrohandoyo
Wiryono Sastrohandoyo (born 31 May 1934) is a former Indonesian diplomat. He was ambassador to Austria, France and Australia. Born in Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta on 31 May 1934, Wiryono graduated from Yogyakarta Faculty in 1959. Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1962, his career saw him in diplomatic roles in Argentina, the United States, Austria, France and Australia. He was Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna from 1988 to 1989 and Ambassador to France from 1993 to 1996. Appointed ambassador to Australia in December 1995, Wiryono was tasked with the job of rebuilding the bilateral relationship. Indonesia had withdrawn the appointment of its previous ambassador in July 1995 after pressure from the Australian Government. Noer Hassan Wirajuda (born July 9, 1948 in Tangerang, West Java, Indonesia) is an Indonesian politician who was the foreign minister of Indonesia from 2001 to 2009. He served during the presidencies of Megawati Sukarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Education Wirajuda earned a Doctor of Juridical Science in international law from the University of Virginia School of Law (1981), a Master of Law (LL.M) from Harvard University School of Law (1985), and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (1984). In 1971, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Indonesia and in 1976, he spent a year at Oxford University in the United Kingdom earning a Certificate in Diplomacy.
