SYL (song)
"SYL" is a song by Indian singer Sidhu Moosewala. The song was released just under three weeks after his death on 23 June 2022. The song was produced by Mxrci, and written by Moose Wala. Lyrical content In the song, Sidhu speaks about issues related to the Sutlej Yamuna link canal, Satluj Yamuna link canal (SYL canal), a contentious issue of sharing of river waters between Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, along with unity among Punjab &Haryana (undivided Punjab). The song also calls for the release of Sikh prisoners who are languishing in jails. In verse three, Sidhu talks about the 2021 Indian farmers' Republic Day protest. Music video The video opens with an interview of Aam Aadmi Party member Sushil Gupta. Censorship After three days of release, the song was removed from YouTube and banned by the Indian government on 26 June. Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu (11 June 1993 – 29 May 2022), better known by his stage name Sidhu Moose Wala, was an Indian rapper, singer and actor. He rose to the mainstream with his track "So High". In 2018, he released his debut album '' PBX 1'', which peaked at number 66 on the ''Billboard'' Canadian Albums chart. His single " 47" was ranked on the UK Singles Chart. In 2020, Moose Wala was named by ''The Guardian'' among 50 up and coming artists. He is generally regarded to have been one of the greatest Punjabi artists of his generation. Moreover, he was considered as a key figure in opening the door for Punjabi artists into mainstream music. Born in Moosa, Mansa district, Moose Wala started in 2016 as a songwriter for the song "License" by Ninja, and as lead artist in 2017 with Gurlez Akhtar for a duet song, "G Wagon". The Canadian Hot 100 is a music industry record chart in Canada for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. The Canadian Hot 100 was launched on the issue dated March 31, 2007, and is currently the standard record chart in Canada; a new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by ''Billboard'' on Tuesdays but post-dated to the following Saturday.
