Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) is the civil service training institution in India. The institute trains Indian Police Service (IPS) officers before they are sent to their respective state cadres to carry out their duties. The academy is in Shivrampalli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. History The academy was established on 15 September 1948, as the ''Central Police Training College (CPTC)''. In 1967, the Institution was renamed as the ''National Police Academy (NPA)''. Later, in 1974, it was named after India's former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was the man responsible for creating the All India Services and for establishing a training institution to train IPS officers. In 1975, the Academy attained its current shape which once was the biggest police training grounds of Nizam of Hyderabad at Hyderabad. The Indian Police Service ( IPS) is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became independent from the British Raj. Along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS), the IPS is one of the All India Services – its officers are employed by both the Union Government and the individual states. Director general of police (DGP) is a rank in the Indian Police Service, held by the highest ranking police officer in a State or a Union Territory of India, typically heading the state or the UT police force. The DGP is appointed by the cabinet and holds a three-star rank. There may also be additional officers in the state who hold the rank of DGP. Assistant Superintendent Of Police
Assistant superintendent, or assistant superintendent of police (ASP), is a rank that was used by police forces in the British Empire and is still used in many police forces in the Commonwealth. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank. In the 20th century, it was in many territories opened to non-Europeans as well. India Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) is still in use in India where the officer holding this rank is from Indian Police Service. The Indian Civil Service (ICS), officially known as the Imperial Civil Service, was the higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947.
