SS Canora
SS ''Canora'' was a passenger rail ferry built in 1918 by Davie Shipbuilding,Canadian Railway and Marine World magazine, July 1918, page 318 for the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway (CNP). She ran from Patricia Bay to the Greater Vancouver area of Port Mann Port Mann townsite was created in 1911 in the municipality of Surrey, British Columbia. The new town was to adjoin the new railway yard and roundhouse forming the terminus of the new trans-national rail-line operated by Canadian Northern Railway. .... She was supposed to have been the main passenger car ferry but sometime in 1918 when she arrived in BC, the CNP went into bankruptcy and the Government (Canadian National) purchased the company. CN had no compulsion to serve passengers, instead, they would service freight. In 1919, ''Canora'' went into service until her forced withdrawal in 1932 due to the depression. A train ferry is a ship (ferry) designed to carry railway vehicles. Canadian Northern Pacific Railway
The Canadian Northern Pacific Railway (CNoPR) was an historic Canadian railway with a main line running between the Alberta–British Columbia border and Vancouver, British Columbia. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR). This railway existed mainly on paper, and there were no cars or locomotives lettered "Canadian Northern Pacific". Patricia Bay
Patricia Bay ("Pat Bay" to locals) is a body of salt water that extends east from Saanich Inlet and forms part of the shoreline of North Saanich, British Columbia. It lies due west of Victoria International Airport. A municipal park covers most of its eastern shore except at the southern end, which is home to a Canadian Coast Guard base, a seaplane port known as Victoria Airport Water Aerodrome, and two Canadian Government research facilities – the Institute of Ocean Sciences and GSC Pacific Sidney (formerly the Pacific Geoscience Centre). Port Mann
Port Mann townsite was created in 1911 in the municipality of Surrey, British Columbia. The new town was to adjoin the new railway yard and roundhouse forming the terminus of the new trans-national rail-line operated by Canadian Northern Railway. It was named for Donald Mann, a partner in the building of the Canadian Northern Railway. Newspaper quoted that the town was intended to be a model town. Purchase of sections had been completed by 1911 and clearing of the forest had begun. The sale of lots began in March 1912 and by June 1912 all land in the townsite had been sold. Four million dollars worth of land was sold in Port Mann. Borrowing from mid-nineteenth century notions of Baron Haussmann’s Paris, Port Mann was laid out by landscape architect Frederick S.
