SR Battle Of Britain Class 21C153 Sir Keith Park
21C153 Sir Keith Park is a Southern Railway Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive that has been preserved. It became a permanent resident at the Spa Valley Railway in September 2020, where it was operational until the expiry of its boiler ticket in May 2022. Career 21C153 was built at Brighton Works in January 1947 and upon completion was allocated to Salisbury MPD. In addition to Salisbury, it spent considerable time on loan to Stewarts Lane depot in Battersea where it hauled the heavy "Continental Boat Expresses" as well as the Golden Arrow on many occasions. After a brief spell at Nine Elms and Exmouth Junction, it was returned to Salisbury in 1951. When British Railways was formed in January 1948 it was given a new number - 34053. Brighton Works
Brighton railway works (also known as Brighton locomotive works, or just the Brighton works) was one of the earliest railway-owned locomotive repair works, founded in 1840 by the London and Brighton Railway in Brighton, England, and thus pre-dating the more famous railway works at Crewe Works, Crewe, Doncaster Works, Doncaster and Swindon Works, Swindon. The works grew steadily between 1841 and 1900 but efficient operation was always hampered by the restricted site, and there were several plans to close it and move the facility elsewhere. Nevertheless, between 1852 and 1957 more than 1200 steam locomotives as well as prototype diesel electric locomotive, diesel electric and electric locomotives were constructed there, before the eventual closure of the facility in 1962. Woodham Brothers Ltd is a trading business, based mainly around activities and premises located within Barry Docks, in Barry, Wales, Barry, South Wales. It is noted globally for its 1960s activity as a scrapyard (hence its colloquial name of Barry Scrapyard), where 297 withdrawn British Railways steam locomotives were sent, from which 213 were rescued for the developing railway preservation movement. Lockwood Smith
Sir Alexander Lockwood Smith (born 13 November 1948) is a New Zealand politician and diplomat who was High Commissioner of New Zealand to the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2017, and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2008 to 2013. Severn Valley Railway
The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England. The heritage line runs along the Severn Valley from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route, and crossing the river on the historic Victoria Bridge. Swanage Railway
The Swanage Railway is a railway branch line from near Wareham, Dorset to Swanage, Dorset, England, opened in 1885 and now operated as a heritage railway. The independent company which built it was amalgamated with the larger London and South Western Railway in 1886. The passenger service was withdrawn in 1972, leaving a residual freight service over part of the line handling mineral traffic. After the passenger closure, a heritage railway group revived part of the line; it too used the name ''Swanage Railway'' and now operates a line which follows the route of the former line from Wareham to Swanage with stops at Norden, Corfe Castle, Harman's Cross and Herston Halt. It provides a regular park-and-ride service, normally steam-hauled, from Norden to the sea at Swanage including Corfe Castle village and ruins of Corfe Castle. Sellindge
Sellindge is a civil parish and village on the A20 road between Ashford and Folkestone in Kent, South East England. Sellindge is part of North Downs West Ward of Folkestone and Hythe District Council but part of the Elham ward of Kent County Council. Since 1971 the yearly Sellindge Steam Festival or Folkestone & Ashford Military Show has been held in the village. In 2008 and 2009 the Sellindge Music Festival was held in the village. The static inverter plant of HVDC Cross-Channel lies south of the motorway on Church Lane. Plans exist for a 3,000 capacity lorry park and an anaerobic digestion plant. The West Somerset Railway (WSR) is a heritage railway line in Somerset, England.
